Publisher Description

Chris Spielman was a high school and Ohio State football legend and a four-time Pro Bowl linebacker, but he didn't tackle his toughest opponent until his playing career was almost over. In 1998 his wife Stefanie was diagnosed with breast cancer, and so began an 11-year journey that brought joy and suffering to the Spielmans, as well as hope and inspiration to thousands of others.

In That's Why I'm Here, Spielman traces his storied career, recalls his courtship of Stefanie Belcher, cherishes the growth of their four children, and invokes the deep spiritual faith that gave their family wisdom and comfort in times of struggle. Though there are plenty of on-the-field tales in the book, it's not just for football fans. It's for people whose lives have been touched by cancer, for people whose own faith has wavered, for people who want to meet a woman of tremendous beauty, grace, and strength.

Though Stefanie passed away on November 19, 2009, her memory and inspiration live on. With laughter and tears, joy and heartbreak, this book lets you know her spirit is still here.

"I can't even describe how wonderful this book is. As I watched and heard about Stefanie's battle I always felt admiration for her courage and how she publicly fought even though I did not know much about her or Chris. This book does an excellent job of sharing their story which is a sports story, a love story, a story of a great warrior but most of all a story of faith. This book makes you want to be not only a better christian but also a better person. This story makes you realize that life is a gift and to enjoy it everyday."

" I am glad that a book has been written about one of the bravest women. I wish it had been focused more on Stefanie and less on football. "

" It may jump around a bit, but it's because it's not a "story", it's a conversation. Chris shows us how ordinary people can become truly extraordinary simply through the decisions they make as they go about their daily lives. And the "bad" in life doesn't have to overcome us, we simply have to follow Stef's "marching orders" of "no doom and gloom". "

" Tremendous book about two very heroic people. A great story of love, dedication, and faith - and what it means to be a real man of God. Stefanie had an amazing outlook on life and truly made the most of her life without ever becoming bitter or complaining. Both give us a real challenge for how to live our lives. "

" What a courageous lady! You need a box of Kleenex beside you to read this story except for Chris' football part. Took me a long time to finish as I could only read a little at a time because of family circumstances. I went to a book signing to buy this book. He still looks sad. "

An what other people go through. The love he had for her was also eye opening an very heart felt. "
