Publisher Description

An artist is found dead in a gallery with locked doors and windows. A television presenter is struck by lightning while indoors.

Two seemingly impossible crimes that only Arthur Bryant and John May of the Met's Peculiar Crimes Unit might be able to solve. But Bryant has lost his nerve, and May is fighting to keep the unit from closure. Worse still, an unsolved mystery from the past has returned to haunt them.

"Yay! Finally a new series to love (hopefully). This was the first for me, but I'm already moving on to the next. Such lovely old farts, if I may, these two unlikely heroes. I liked them and the writing and the plot and the idea. So yeah. I can finally move on from rereading Agatha Christie. Yay."

" After enjoying The Victoria Vanishes I thought this would be a quick, fun read, but instead it was heavy going. The plot never grabbed my attention and I figured it out pretty early on. I'm not sure why I kept going, but it did turn out to be good for curing insomnia! "

" I think Christopher Fowler must really love London. The characters he created--Bryant and May in particular--are wonderfully flawed and likable. I plan on reading the entire series and I love that you do not need to read them in order. "

" I'd give this a 3.5. The plot is a lot quicker and more entertaining than the books before, but the ending was very Scooby Doo. I saw it coming from before page 100. "

" Another brilliant book in the series. I really enjoyed this one as it jumped back to modern day and carried on the story from The Water Room. I do enjoy the ones in the past but I think I prefer these ones that carry the story forwards. "
