"First of all, this is nothing like the movie! This was a slower book. There wasn't a lot of action and the story took place over years. The thing that I liked was the unity and the interactions with the family and how the Parent's raised their boys. That drove me crazy watching the movie and seeing how much they were fighting. It wasn't like that in the book at all. I loved how they obeyed the Sabbath and worshiped God and gave thanks to Him. It is a good family book."

" I enjoyed the book. This was more about believing in God than survival. It was a bit over the top with all of the things that were on an island, but it was still a good read. "

" I thought this book was ok because it was written in an old fashioned way even though the plot is very good. It's about a 1800's family who is shipwrecked on an island and is forced to survive. On this island they have many different animals which is kind of strange but it makes you think that people have inhabited the island before. "

" Probably my favoirite book as a young teen. I read it & re-read it. It seemed very exotic. The family was very resourceful, and I loved seeing them carve a life out of the land (with the blessings of the supplies from a shipwreck). I would've loved to live in that tree-house! "

" An instructional tale, written by a pastor in 1812. It reflects his and that time period's attitudes and thoughts regarding colonization, family, morality, hunting, providence, and learning. Much of it is idealized. Knowing all that, I still found it an enjoyable and idyllic story. "

" I get tired of the "Survival" books because there are so many of them and they just start sounding the same. But this one is an exception. I really like it! This family goes from being shipwrecked on an island to living in a giant tree house and having an ostrich as a pet! "
