Publisher Description

If Emily has learned anything from her past as a 911 operator, it's to stay calm during stressful situations. But that's a tall order when one of her regulars, Georgia Treetor, goes missing. Georgia never skips morning cappuccinos with her knitting circle. Her pals fear the worst—especially Lois, a close friend who recently moved to town. As evening creeps in, Emily and the ladies search for Georgia at home. And they find her—murdered among a scattering of stale donuts . . .

Disturbingly, Georgia's demise coincides with the five-year anniversary of her son's murder, a case Emily's late detective husband failed to solve before his own sudden death. With Lois hiding secrets and an innocent man's life at stake, Emily's forced to revisit painful memories on her quest for answers. Though someone's alibi is full of holes, only a sprinkling of clues have been left behind. And if Emily can't trace them back to a killer in time, her donut shop will end up permanently closed for business . . .

“Survival of the Fritters, the first in the new Deputy Donut series, is delightfully filled with delicious donuts, dead people, and a curious cat named Dep…The mystery is well developed with an interesting outcome and the secondary characters move the story along nicely. Emily is a smart and clever detective, and this is a good start to a promising new series.”

— RT Book Reviews (4 stars)

Quotes

  • “Seductive as the aroma of powdered sugar and warm spices, this cozy series opener from the pseudonymous Bolton also delivers nourishment.”

    — Publishers Weekly
  • Another deftly crafted mystery from author Ginger Bolton in her Deputy Donut Mystery series, Survival of the Fritters is a simply compelling and unfailingly entertaining read from cover to cover.

    — Midwest Book Review
  • “Bolton brings several popular themes together—cooking, knitting, small businesses, and, of course, cats—in this appealing cozy.”

    — Booklist
  • “Emily’s mistakes at the murder scene draw her into the case. But, it’s Emily’s lifelong knowledge of the town residents that will help her to save herself when she catches a killer’s eye…The emphasis on the sympathetic amateur sleuth’s donut shop as the center of the action creates a strong sense of place.”

    — Library Journal
  • “Emily and Brent…[are] professional investigator and amateur sleuth who are kind of sweet on each other but kind of not, tracking down a killer whose motives are far from obvious.”

    — Kirkus Reviews

About Ginger Bolton

Ginger Bolton is the pseudonym of an Agatha-nominated author of cozy mysteries. She is very fond of donuts, coffee, and coffee shops that encourage patrons to linger and chat. She lives in a rural area surrounded by cozy villages. When she isn’t reading, writing, or daydreaming while gazing out windows, she walks her dogs, plays an electric piano while wearing earphones so as not to frighten the wildlife, creates minor disasters in her kitchen, and, very occasionally, takes part in local amateur theater productions, which, intended or not, become comedies.

About Emily Durante

Emily Durante has been narrating audiobooks for over ten years and is also an AudioFile Earphones Award–winning audiobook director. She has been acting since the age of seven and has performed in a number of stage productions at the professional, collegiate, and regional levels.
