Pawleys Island, South Carolina. Sunny, idyllic, and picture-perfect, until a tabloid news program airs a splashy segment about the community's only unsolved murder - the grisly stabbing of teenager Tara Mitchell and the subsequent disappearance of her two best friends, now thought to be long dead. In the years since the murders, several families have moved into the mansion where the crime occurred, each claiming that the dead girls still haunt the house. Beautiful redheaded reporter Nicole Sullivan, sensing the story that could be her big break, arranges for her mother, a renowned psychic, to contact the three victims in a live séance on the show Twenty-Four Hours Investigates.
But something goes terribly wrong during the segment, and a young woman is murdered in the same manner as Tara Mitchell was 15 years earlier. Pressured by her producers to get the inside story, Nicole continues to investigate. As an attraction grows between her and Police Chief Joe Franconi, another identical murder occurs, and a menacing warning is delivered that the original killer is back to claim three more lives. The body count rises, and so does the danger to Nicole, who is attacked, barely escaping with her life. She and Joe must team up, as it becomes clear that the killer has set his sights on her as his next victim.

"Another freebie that I read while waiting for library book holds... it wasn't bad! The story was pretty compelling and there wasn't too much gratuitous sex, sometimes that can take away from the actual story. Robards does a decent job with that. All in all, enjoyable reading. " Good suspense from this author, but not my favorite. "
" I had high hopes for this book but I never really felt a connection with the main characters; Joe or Nicky. I've read a couple other books by Robards and liked them; "Obsession" and "Guilty". Maybe it's the mood I was in, but I didn't enjoy this one. "
" was NOT expecting either twist at the end....very cool book, although I'd call it something else, as it wasn't really about being superstitious like the book suggests, and I liked the romance didn't over shadow the suspense part of it. First time I read Karen Robards stuff, I might pick up more. "
" Good mystery romance! Robards keeps your attention going, no lulls. "
" Really enjoyed this book. It had a few twists and turn, but the author tied everything together at the end. This is the first book I've read by Karen Robards. I will be trying other books that she's written. "
" Was ok, but I think from the blurb on the back of the book I was expecting more on the supernatural side of it, but was still a good read. "

" Listened on cd- long, many cd's- but good story, kept my interest. "
" This book took me forever to finish because I couldn't read it before bed. It was a little scary. But very good! "
" Not one of my favorites "
" KR has been so hit or miss for me lately, this one was a miss. It felt rushed, like there was little thought process behind the plot. The story was choppy too, like she took sections from multiple other books and pasted them together to make her own story. I'm not buying it, I give it 2 stars. "
" Good book from the first chapter.. the ending was not what I expected.. but very good.. "
" Enjoyed this story and was surprised at part of the ending... "
" This was a fun romantic suspense novel. I listened to it as an audio book and it had a fantastic reader. It has thrills, chills, sexy characters, orgasmic scenes, quarky characters, spooky ghosts, and a brave pig! "
" Audiobook: I guess the story was ok, but it dragged. There were a few times I was going to give up, but I hung in there. I don't think I will be reading any more books by this author. "
" If there is a serial killer in town after me, I could fall in love with the hot hunky chief of police and he will save me and we will live happily ever after. "
" good thriller - I love the main man in this story. "
" I love Robards as a writer. She keeps me riveted and gasping at every turn. "
" wrote a review somewhere else. guess it will show up under comments "
" Enjoyable enough, though the relationship between the main characters was a little stereotypical and annoying. Tough-as-nails sheriff and sassy gorgeous reporter. "
" 3-3.5 stars, a good read "
" This book would have been about half as long if all the excessively long descriptions had been cut. And since Liv was constantly described as hugely pregnant, why the hell couldn't Joe tell the difference between her and her sister who was always described as being so thin?? "
" pretty interesting book, not my favorite, but I would read it again. "
" Ghost stories usually aren't my cup of tea but this one was enjoyable. The story was gripping enough to keep my interest without being so intense as to scare my pants off! "
" I was intrigued by the mystery aspect. The book is quite dark, but there is a satisfying ending. Well, it was as satisfying as it could possibly be since there were depressing events and issues that were still occurring in their world even with the resolution of the mystery. "
" The ending was not as exciting as the build-up to it. The Producer/ boss killing people was kind of far fetched and kinda didnt do it for me at all. And the evil-Governor killing is just far fetched!!! Over alll OKKKK "
" It reads like a made-for-TV movie. Even the twist at the end is predictable. Can anyone say why it is that writers of suspence novels feel that they always must end with an "unexpected" twist? "
" I love most of Karen Robards books , I could not get into this one though . :/ So this isn't one I would recommend . "
