" Sequel to After the Leaves Fall--and if would definitely be a good idea to read that one first, if you haven't already. Summer Snow picks up Julia's story--pregnant after the events of the first book, she has now dropped out of school and is living with her grandmother and working at the local grocery store. There she struggles with feeling of shame and wonders if anyone will accept her. Those worries--and her precarious financial situation--become the least of her concerns when her mother reappears--with a 5 year old boy, Julia's half brother. Julie is suspicious of her mother's motives and finds it hard to trust her. The author does a wonderful job of letting us into Julie's inner world, which feels entirely honest. I especially enjoyed the way she related to God--and the way you could sense Him at work behind the scenes, despite the imperfections of the characters. Definitely give this series a read if you like Christian fiction that explores the challenges of real life. "

" After being so emotionally involved in the first book I was disappointed in this one. There were moments in the book but overall I found it kind of obnoxious to read. It was too wordy, not enough action or development in it. There's not really any new revelation into Julia's life that's not in the first book. I will still end up reading the 3rd book and hoping for a better ending. "

" I really love to read realistic fiction with Christianity skillfully woven throughout ~ Baart does a good job with that. "

" Another fabulous book by Nicole Baart! This book was so full of inspiration that I wished it was mine and not the libraries...because if it was mine, I would have it all marked up with highlighter! "

" A wonderful prose with deep analysis of complex issues. I read this book pretty much in one sitting as I was so caught up in Julia's world that I couldn't put it down (while my baby was napping and the older one was away with my husband). I know there is a sequel to this second novel, which I am looking forward to reading soon. But I already hope that Nicole writes the fourth one! "

" I am really enjoying the story of Julia DeSmit and her complicated life and the her spiritual journey through a lot of unresolved hurt and abandoments. It is SO very hard to put down. Very well written and very relatable character. A new favorite author for me. "

" This was the sequel to "After the Leaves Fall". I liked the first book better, but got the second book to see how the girl's life turned out. Pretty decent. "

" This is the second in the trilogy, with the first being After the Leaves Fall. See that review. For this genre, I would give it a 4. My rating does not necessarily reflect all genres, but a 4 in this particular one, Christian fiction. "

" This book was awesome. I stumbled upon the first book in a used bookstore and decided to give it a shot. It is a Christian book that actually focuses on the story more than being cheesy by overspiritualizing everything, as many Christian books have a tendency to do. Read it! "

" 19 yr. old pregnant girl whose mom left her when she was 9. Somewhat religious in nature, which I don't mind. Just didn't care for the story or ending. Thumbs down. "

" even better than the first book. more plot than character driven. what will julia decide and can she forgive? i really liked some if the new characters here, namely simon and michael. "

" This was a wonderful book. There is one thing though that did irk me. I noticed that every decision that was made, had to pass Julia's approval. That was a little annoying. Made her seem a little demanding. But it was still a 5 star book. A very beautiful story. Can't wait to get to book 3. "

" I cannot even explain the effect Nicole Baart's writing has on me. Her writing is beautiful and captivating to the point where I couldn't put the book down for hours and I was practically crying through the whole book. Easily my favorite series so far, and I can barely wait to read the next one. "

" Depressing but realistic story. Not sure I'm any better off having read it, but I can see how it could be life-changing for some...especially a teenage girl. "

" This book brought out emotions in me like no other book before. I feel like in some ways I related to the character in a deep way. This book was good, but I have yet to decide whether I will read the sequel due to my emotional state during this book. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Sarah | 4/28/2011

" It was pretty good. I think the author did an excellent job of getting inside a teenager's head and articulating all of the insecurities they sometimes feel. I was sucked in from the beginning and had a difficult time putting it down. It ended very abruptly, though, which really annoyed me. "

" This was a pretty good book. It was something totally new for me...I got it for free on my Kindle. It was definetly different. I guess it was a sequel to it, I will check it out, too. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Mary | 4/14/2011

" The book was an entertaining read but not a great read. Very depressing and bleak throughout the book. While the author tried to capture a teen's sad life, the characters in the book seemed very static and rigid. There was no growth in the characters. I really couldn't connect with any of them. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Amy | 4/12/2011

" I enjoyed this book, but I had no problem putting it down... I was never sure what the angle was. However, I do think I will read the sequel. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Cheryl | 4/8/2011

" I stumbled across this book on a day it was free in the Kindle Store. It was a good story but I felt like the author ended at an odd place in order to sell a sequel to the book. So the story was ok but really not finished. I don't mind sequels but would like there to be a logical end. "
