Publisher Description

When the Imperial prison barge Purge - temporary home to 500 of the galaxy's most ruthless killers, rebels, scoundrels, and thieves - breaks down in a distant, uninhabited part of space, its only hope appears to lie with a star destroyer found drifting, derelict, and seemingly abandoned. But when a boarding party from the Purge is sent to scavenge for parts, only half of them come back - bringing with them a horrific disease so lethal that within hours nearly all aboard the Purge die in ways too hideous to imagine.

And death is only the beginning....

The Purge's half-dozen survivors - two teenage brothers, a sadistic captain of the guards, a couple of rogue smugglers, and the chief medical officer, the lone woman on board - will do whatever it takes to stay alive. But nothing can prepare them for what lies waiting aboard the Star Destroyer amid its vast creaking emptiness that isn't really empty at all. For the dead are rising: soulless, unstoppable, and unspeakably hungry.

"3.5/5Not to bad, a little campy and cliche, even more so then most military sci-fi/horror books. But shit, it's about damn zombies, and zombie wookies. I will say though that at least the author wasn't shy about much. It's worth reading if a buddy has it or you got some extra cash. "

" It is what it is: zombies plus star wars - a quick and fun read but total mindless. Don't try to find any literary significance to it and just try to enjoy the ride. Low expectations rarely lead to large disappointments. "

" Let's ignore, for the moment, that this is a Star Wars novel. I would have ignored it had it not been written by Joe Schreiber. So with that in mind, this is a fun, new "zombies in space" story. Schreiber plays with the bio-warfare/ hive mentality aspects of zombie-ism. The characters were solid and engaging with just enough back story to make them real. Two points of contention: (and I write this in the knowledge that I am meeting Joe in 2 weeks) one, that the ship that the characters are aboard is MASSIVE yet the action takes place in all of three places, which leads into point two, that characters that have been zombified happen to stumble back upon their loved ones/enemies which is highly unlikely considering the size of the vessel (both of them) and the quantity of zombies. Regardless, I feel silly dissecting a zombie story. It was fun, it kept me wrapped up, there were scene of wonderful gruesomeness and zombie violence, and when you finally add back in the fact that it happened in the Star Wars universe with two of my favorite SW characters....You can't go wrong. " I you like zombie books and you like star wars, this is the book for you. Also a nice cameo of Han solo and chewie. I really liked the story line. The ending wasn't really spectacular but definately makes sense so it workable. "

" I was very much disappointed by this book. But is since it's about zombies in Star Wars was not a complete waste of time. "

" I thought Death Troopers has an interesting premise. There's definite potential and Schreiber succeeds in making the zombies disturbing and the vast emptiness of the Star Destroyer unnerving as well. The characters are two dimensional and somewhat predictable, but you keep reading because of the premise and setting. What doesn't work here is the plot. Some people have said that the book reverts to a typical zombie story, which I agree with. You've been here before, but what makes it cool is that it's Star Wars. Obviously this is no book of the year by a long shot, but it's still a fun read. If this was ever translated to film, it'd be entertaining enough for some casual enjoyment. "

" A really quick read, this book was fun from start to finish. Sure, if you take a couple of characters out of this and don't use a few key terms this wouldn't even be a Star Wars book, but its nice to see something different injected into the EU. And it works too! "

" Great job mixing Star Wars with zombies. It's an exciting read. I enjoy books that mix very familiar characters with a different type of genre. The author did a decent job with this. Although, I do wish there was more zombies, but I think that about most books. "
