Shadows of the Empire illuminates the shadowy outlines of a criminal conspiracy that exists in the background of the events in the movies, ruled by a character new to us. Prince Xizor is a mastermind of evil who dares to oppose one of the best-known fictional villains of all time: Darth Vader. "One of my favorite books in the star wars universe. I can read it without skippiing pages,(I only do this on star wars books. Its almost like reading one of the books from the movies. I like how it jumps around to different charaters frequetly."

" I read a lot of Star Wars novels in Jr. High. It took a few dozen books before I realized many of them just weren't all that stellar. Ah, well, I'll squirrel away the memories on the internet and free up a book shelf. "

" "Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire" was interesting but not one of the best "Star Wars" reads. It takes place before the rescue of Han Solo, stored in carbonite on Tatooine. My biggest problem with it is that Leia Organa is portrayed as someone who makes bonehead decisions and acts stupidly, totally out of her usual character. The climax of the book is when Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader are actually allies in a fight against Prince Xixor. I will not spoil the book for anyone who hasn't read it but it seems as if the author began with this premise of a Skywalker/Skywalker alliance and wrote backward from there. There were some interesting characters, however, such as Dash Rendar, a standin for Han Solo, and Guri, an assasin droid. It is worth a read but not a standout in the Star Wars universe. "

" The book introduces Xizor, a gangster, into the Star Wars series. The author does a good job explaining the thoughts and actions of the original cast; but Xizor is odd and clunky. His organization really does not fit well into the genre. "

" I was expecting more from this one, considering the big hoopla surrounding it (at the time, anyway). I finished it but it was less than enjoyable at times, and nothing really stood out to make this anyting more than a 2-star book. Sorry, die-hard Star Wars fans... "
