In Children of the Jedi, Barbara Hambly introduces a new character: Callista, a brave Jedi warrior of long ago who gave her life to foil one of the Empire's darkest plans, a plot to destroy a stronghold that was a sanctuary for the families of Jedi knights.

The plot involved a dreadnaught, one of the Empire's most devious inventions, governed by a sophisticated artificial intelligence. Crippled during the war against the Empire, the vessel has drifted through space for years. But now it is slowly reactivating and resuming its inexorable mission. Only Luke Skywalker can feel its evil presence as well as the mysterious influence of that powerful woman who should have died decades ago.

" It was ok...not as good as a lot of Star Wars books I've read. I felt like quiet often there was a lot of things that didn't add up, especially when comparing it to other Star wars novels. And it was heavy on Luke. But all in all it was ok. "

" This is a neat adventure featuring more heroic exploits by Leia and Luke against a plot to keep captive, teh Childrn of the Jedi. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Adam | 11/17/2013

" This is not a very good novel - forgettable characters and names cause confusion with each chapter, and the story simply isn't developed to the point that one usually finds in Star Wars novels. I was bored with this, and thankful when it was over. "

  • 1 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 5 Ed Nemo | 11/15/2013

" A really outstanding example of Star Wars novels/novelizations. Compared to some of the oversimplified writing and crummy, trite plots out there, this is an excellent book. "

  • 1 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 5 Chris | 4/6/2013

    " rubbish really "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Saranar | 1/12/2013

" Was always waiting for something to happen in this book. However it did introduce us to Calista, and DarkSaber and Planet of twilight made this loose trilogy a real good read. "

" This book was so confusing! In my opinion, it wasn't very well written when compared to Timothy Zahn, and it's a good thing that Kevin J. Anderson continues the story presented here in a mervelous way. "

" Even though it might not quite fit in with the continuity created by the prequel trilogy, I thought this was a cool story. "

" A very strange story -- the romanticism-meets-cyberpunk plot makes this very unique in the Star Wars novel series...almost a pure SF story in its own right, with special guest appearance by Luke Skywalker. I found it more fascinating than all-out entertaining & enjoyable. "

" The storyline sounded intriguing, but I just couldn't finish the book. I think for the most part it was because there was something off about the author's sentence structure or wording??? I kept finding myself having to re-read passages just to try to make sense of them. "

  • 1 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 5 Alex Castellanos | 7/19/2011

" It was interesting. The book went by rather quickly, considering that the entire book happened in the space of one week. I got very mad at Luke, as he decided to enter into a relationship with Callista, when we all know he'll someday marry Mara. That stuff just makes me mad. "

" I read a lot of Star Wars novels in Jr. High. It took a few dozen books before I realized many of them just weren't all that stellar. Ah, well, I'll squirrel away the memories on the internet and free up a book shelf.

    "

" I sort of rolled my eyes at the romance parts; admittedly if those parts didn't exist I would have liked Callista just fine.

What alarmed me most, though, was how Luke seemed to get physically injured all the time (I still rolled my eyes at the brokenhearted bits). "
