As the Jedi and the Republic focus on internal struggles, a new threat surfaces beyond the farthest reaches of the Outer Rim. An enemy appears from outside known space, bearing weapons and technology unlike anything New Republic scientists have ever seen. Suddenly, Luke, Mara, Leia, Han Solo, and Chewbacca, along with their children, are thrust again into battle, to defend the freedom so many have fought and died for. But this time, all their courage, sacrifice, and even the power of the Force itself, may not be enough. Download and start listening now!

" It was alright. It had the typical Skywalker and Solo family save the world theme in it. A couple of sad moments. The YV were a nice polar opposite of the Force. "

" This is a horrible book: it takes far too long to get going, and goes to slowly when it does. I didn't get into the New Jedi Order books until a few years after it started because I could not get through this book. I want to be clear that I don't have anything against the author, I've read some of his other star wars stuff and enjoyed it but I don't think his style was well suited to launch this series. "

" I enjoyed this often controversial Star Wars book. I would not rank it among the best Star Wars books, but more as a passable sci-fi novel. I do really enjoy the way the author has taken the series, as it is a nice change to see a truly new enemy arise, instead of the Republic having to beat back the Empire that never seems to die. Hopefully more details and characters will be brought forward in the following books. Overall not a bad read, but certainly nothing amazing. "

" I love all the Star Wars books, but this onetook the storyof the Jedi Knights into a new direction. A wonderful book that nder the covers expolres the concept off failing governments, and spiritual undertaking to new literary heights. "

" Amazingly creative. Wow, I was blown away by this excellent introduction to a new Star Wars series. And it became the largest of all of the Star Wars book series. What a brilliant, entertaining & fresh storyline. Mr. Salvatore is brilliant! "

" This was my first Star Wars that I've read and was pleased to see that R. A. Salvatore wrote it. I'm very familiar with his work and was unsurprised by the level of storytelling. This was a thoroughly good read, I hope the next in line are of equal quality. "

" Not very good to be honest. The enemies were unbelievable , the technology literally made no sense and chewie dies right away. The ending made no sense and was not good. It's a Star Wars book and was kind of "fun" to read but I would not recommend this book to anyone. "

" Read this like 3 years ago. Before that I had heard that a major character would die in this one. It was not all bad, but felt a little too campy on the whole. The actual death was also pretty much a let down in how it came to be. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Allan | 11/18/2010

" There is something about Star Wars books that I just love. I enjoyed this book starting off the series New Jedi Order. The beginning of one era and the end of another.
My only minor criticism would be that I had to work hard to visualise the space fights.... "

" Really nice start of the new Jedi order series, of course salvatore writing skills are welcome in this book. If you are a hardcore fan of star wars this book is a must read due to some shocking events present in this book that will change the star wars extended universe. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Xebix | 8/11/2010

" After having the majority of this series on my bookshelf for almost ten years now, I finally decided to give it a read. The big death felt a little anticlimactic, but overall, it was a pretty good start to this era of Star Wars books. "
