Award-winning author Kristine Kathryn Rusch brings her remarkable talents to the Star Wars(r) universe, where the New Republic faces sudden and total annihilation....

Somewhere in the galaxy, millions suddenly perish--a disruption of the Force so shocking it is felt by Luke at his Jedi academy and by Leia on Coruscant.  While Leia must deal with an assassination attempt, a rumored plot against the New Republic, and allegations that Han Solo is involved, Luke seeks out a former Jedi student who may hold the key to the mass destruction.  But Brakiss is only the bait in a deadly trap set by a master of the dark side who is determined to rule as emperor.  He's targeted Luke, Leia, and Leia's Jedi children to die.  Then billions will follow, in a holocaust unequaled in galactic history.

Listener Opinions

" This has been one of the better Star Wars novels I have read in a while. The story is more political, but still had a great amount of action. I also found the voice of the characters to be accurate. Many of the novels in this era of the EU have characters named Luke, Han and Leia but they never felt like the same people from the movies, in this book they felt the same. "

" I can't remember much from this one....I remember the ones that I hated and the ones that I like, so obviously this one is in the middle. Sorry, pointless review. :P "

" A tense, past-comes-back-to-haunt-you SW book. One of the rare stand alone Star Wars novels, definitely worth the time of Star Wars fans. "

" Found this book in a box of stuff I was planning to get rid of and thought I'd read it before selling/disposing of it. Not worth my time. Book had an interesting start, but I felt myself quickly losing interest in it as the story progressed. If you're going to read a Star Wars book, stick with Timothy Zahn. "

" Not bad, a little dated compared to current SW fiction. Also minor differences compared to revelations from the prequels. "

" This was a pretty good star wars book. It had a interesting plot that wasn't too predictable. I wasn't exactly thrilled with it, just enjoyed it. Just a one time read. "

" Finally, a Star Wars book that didn't betray the characters, had great action, and a decent villain. Loved Artoo's role in this book, and was happy to see Wedge again :D "

" One-off book with a menace that goes for shock value and doesn't really succeed, is wrapped up just within these pages and is never really mentioned again. Another of the forgotten SW EU books, and probably for good reason. "

" Great book! I would have given it 5 stars, if not for the story on Smuggler's Run, which bored me. The rest of the book is excellent. Everybody is acting like themselves for a change (what a relief)! Compliments to Rusch for making this feel very much like an actual Star Wars book. "

The term we use for this is "repression." "

" This was a great story, but I was at a bit of a loss for where these Jedi came from. I would like to see more of the Jedi academy and have the new Jedi get more screen time. The story kept me interested to the end, and it had a great end. "
