For the infamous, power-hungry Sith, beholden to the dark side, the time has come to rise again.

After years of waiting in the shadows, Darth Sidious is taking the first step in his master plan to bring the Republic to its knees. Key to his scheme are the Neimoidians of the Trade Federation. Then one of his Neimoidian contacts disappears, and Sidious does not need his Force-honed instincts to suspect betrayal. He orders his apprentice, Darth Maul, to hunt the traitor down.

But he is too late. The secret has already passed into the hands of information broker Lorn Pavan, which places him right on the top of Darth Maul's hit list. Then, in the labyrinthine alleyways and sewers of Coruscant, capital city of the Republic, Lorn crosses paths with Darsha Assant, a Jedi Padawan on a mission to earn her knighthood. Now the future of the Republic depends on Darsha and Lorn. But how can an untried Jedi and an ordinary man, stranger to the powerful ways of the Force, hope to triumph over one of the deadliest killers in the galaxy?

" I decided to read as many Star Wars novels as I can in chronological order. This book is, really, the first, and it does a great job of kickstarting any Jedi's training. The plot was believable, the action non-stop, and Darth Maul is a kickass Sith. My only problem (and it is only a minor one) is that i can't imagine a Sith with so much ability, skill, guile, and power taking so long to deal with his prey, and almost succumbing to one of them. I mean really. Otherwise a great read to start the Star Wars universe. Oh, and by the way, read the included short story, "Saboteur", first. "

" just read it! im not good at giving reviews. i just liked it. its one of the few book that i have actually read and finished. thats saying something. "

" Not a very deep story. The characters were well done but the plot was shallow. The way the story is shoe horned into the Star Wars timeline seemed too forced. It ended up having very little if any impact and therefore quickly became forgettable. "

" I liked this story.. It was a much better tale than I had expected.. I saw this book at the store, and with the release of Episode 1 in 3D this week, I figured, why not.. I enjoyed the story; it was an entertaining quick read.. I quit reading Star Wars books years ago; I might start reading them again.. "

" I thought this book was great. Good characters, good plot, and a fast pace that was exceptionally entertaining to me. Best of all was how Darth Maul was exactly how I hoped he would be. Way more hard core than Vader. Just a Sith warrior through and through. And the ending; perfect. "

" Simply put, this is one of the very best Star Wars related novel I have ever read. "

" It was OK. It's cool to see some back-story to the Star Wars Universe, but this book can't stand on it's own. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Alvin Lewis Tham | 11/22/2013

" A really good tale on events that happened just prior to Episode I, and it links pretty well to the beginning of the Star Wars series. "

" It was a little slow getting into this book. I some times have a problem reading stuff that is too fan fiction like. But, the story picked up later and a had good ending. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Lee | 10/9/2013

" This book was an enjoyable read if a little predictable. The author also seems to enjoy finding obscure words and inserting them into his prose. "

" I was always a big fan of Darth Maul, mostly due to timing. Episode 1 hit weeks before my 18th birthday and he made the movies bearable. This book is a good action thriller, and Maul does show off a few nifty tracking skills. The plus is you get to see the bad guys win one. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Walt | 12/20/2011

" The focus of the book is not so much Darth Maul as his prey. There are some unique twists and turns. Although Reaves takes some liberties with Darth Maul, the reader is still left with a sense of mystery surrounding him. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Jessica Petree | 7/24/2011

" This was the first book with a sad ending that I truly and thoroughly enjoyed anyway. "

" Would have benefitted from delving more into Darth Maul's time in training and overall character, especially since we know from the beginning that the 'good guys' he's facing can't survive without flying in the face of canon. "

" A good listen, one of my favorite Star Wars books. I really like the I5 character (the droid from this books) and am glad to know he makes appearances in other books. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Stephan Randle | 4/9/2007

" This book showed the the inner workings of the Sith are more complicated than they may seem to be. In the book Darth Maul is set with a task from his dark master that seems to him to be easier than expected. "
