Publisher Description

The intrepid spies, pilots, and sharpshooters of Wraith Squadron are back in an all-new Star Wars adventure, which transpires just after the events of the Fate of the Jedi series!

Three decades have passed since Wraith Squadron carried out its last mission. Taking on the most dangerous and daring operations, the rogues and misfits of the elite X-Wing unit became legends of the Rebellion and the Second Galactic Civil War, before breaking up and going their separate ways. Now their singular skills are back in vital demand - for a tailor-made Wraith Squadron mission.

A powerful general in the Galactic Alliance Army, once renowned for his valor, is suspected of participating in the infamous Lecersen Conspiracy, which nearly toppled the Alliance back into the merciless hands of the Empire. With orders to expose and apprehend the traitor - and license to do so by any and all means - the Wraiths will become thieves, pirates, impostors, forgers...and targets, as they put their guts, their guns, and their riskiest game plan to the test against the most lethal of adversaries.

"This was a fun return to some favorite characters from the Wraith Squadron series, and even a couple of Rogue Squadron characters. It's interesting to see the next generation, and to hear what happened to some of the old members (one in particular was rather sad). The present-day story isn't quite as good as the previous books; it feels a little too scattered and the villain didn't seem particularly menacing. And the almost total absence of any starfighting was a little odd for a series that grew out of a series on starfighters. But those are nitpicks - seeing the story from Voort's eyes was an interesting approach, and some of the tactics and humor were lots of fun. It's enough to make me want to get back into the two 9-book series of post New-Jedi-Order books that I still haven't gotten to."

" A good quick read, but Mercy Kill suffered from the same problem common to all of the X-wing books. It seems like no matter what, nothing ever goes truly wrong for the heros of Wraith or Rogue squadrons. The enemy never throws any surprise punches the operatives haven't already prepared for. Maybe they really are that good, but it also makes the books feel a bit . . . predictable. This is a one-time-read. "

" Though this book has none of the usual characters we have come to know in this galaxy, this is a quick-paced easy to read novel full of action, intrigue and twists that will leave you asking for more. As usual for me, it did end a little bit too abruptly. "
