The dying Empire's most cunning and ruthless warlord - Grand Admiral Thrawn - has taken command of the remnants of the Imperial fleet and launched a massive campaign aimed at the New Republic's destruction. With the aid of unimaginable weapons long hidden away by the Emperor on a backwater planet, Thrawn plans to turn the tide of battle, overwhelm the New Republic, and impose his iron rule throughout the galaxy.

Meanwhile, Han and Lando Calrissian race against time to find proof of treason inside the highest Republican Council - only to discover instead a ghostly fleet of warships that could bring doom to their friends and victory to their enemies.

Yet most dangerous of all is a new Dark Jedi, risen from the ashes of a shrouded past, consumed by bitterness...and scheming to corrupt Luke Skywalker to the Dark Side.

" Fantastic second installment to a strong series. More and more I hope they base the new movies off these books. "

" If you read the first one you would have been hooked and read the rest, so there is little left to say. "

" As with any book written as a spin off from Star Wars (or Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, etc.), this book runs the risk of contradicting future installments of the franchise. Since episodes seven through nine of the Star Wars Saga have not been made, this hasn't happened yet. This was a good read, regardless. Just make sure to read the first of the three books in this series, Heir to the Empire, before reading this book. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Wesley | 2/5/2014

" The greatest Sci-fi series continues. Zahn is amazing, this trilogy is amazing. Some great character's being developed here. "

" This is not as exciting as the first book in the Trawn Trilogy, call me a nerd, but I read the whole series in about two months while I was in Elementary. "

" Really good stuff, definitely enjoying this trilogy so far. I'd heard a lot of praise for the series, I'm glad I swallowed my pride and decided to read it. Looking forward to the conclusion, hopefully Zahn stuck the landing back in '93. "

" This trilogy by Zahn is widely considered one of the best contributions to the Star Wars literary canon. Highly enjoyable, but not one of my favorites. "

" Second in the Thrawn Trilogy book series, in this story the Republic is battered by the ressurgent Empire and its new leader. In this book the plot thickens as the Thrawn are after Luke and Princess Leah's two children. Great book with so many twists and turns that will leave you spinning! "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Kyle | 6/2/2013

" A solid continuation of Heir to the Empire, Zahn does a fantastic job in this book. In all honesty, my only disappointment in this book was a wek ending (thouh it sets the scene for the third book in the trilogy, The Last Command, very well). "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Eugene | 9/17/2012

" I think this book was better than the first book in the series by a hair. However, like the first, I found it dragging around the middle, with an abrupt ending. A good book, but not a great one. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Casey Harris | 8/17/2012

" Solid sequel to Heir to the Empire. This is the second time I've read it, and I'm sure I enjoyed it more now than I did when I first read it (shortly after it was originally published). Very entertaining. "
