"This book was riotous, and ridiculous, and silly, and unpredictable! It did lull a bit in the middle for me and I set it aside to read a few other books, but when I picked it up again my sense of adventure was renewed and I was extremely entertained. Amanda, one of the main characters, is completely absurd, yet so entirely entertaining...and such could be said for many of the other characters as well! Simply a fun, funny story, brought alive and kept intelligent by the unique prose of Georgette Heyer. I love this author!"

" Ms. Heyer repeats this theme quite a bit. She has several titles in which the protagonist stumbles upon a young, impoverished little chit of a girl and must save her. Again, well worth reading but not her best. "

" The hero of this novel, Gareth, is an absolute dream! What a fabulous character. His love interest Hester Theale, however, is not my favorite. She's endearing, but he could have done so much better! My biggest problem with the book, though, is that the story really revolves around Gareth and a secondary character named Amanda, while Hester is pushed into the background. Not Heyer's very best. "

" Fun book. The young girl was a little crazy and unbelievable considering the time this book was written. However, it was very enjoyable and I loved the ending. "

" I loved this book but there was entirely too much focus on the ditzy Amanda so we really didn't get to see enough development between Gareth and Hester who I thoroughly liked together. "

" Amanda herself and all her shenanigans are deeply irritating to me, but I do love the almost-background relationship between Gary and Beatrix. Also, Amanda redeems herself somewhat by actually being steadfastly in love with Neil and not being quite as much of a ninny in an actual emergency. "
