Publisher Description

As a happy, successful pastor, Fr. William Burke suddenly had a dramatic collision with depression. He courageously shared his crisis openly with friends and parishioners. In this talk, recorded live before an audience at the Los Angeles Religious Education Congress, he explains how depression changed his spirituality and brought healing to himself and those around him.

Fr. Burke notes that one in twelve Americans, at some time in life, suffers from depression. As an aid to others, he describes the signs of depression and shares insights from his own experience on what helped him. He advises seeking professional help, together with counseling and medication. He also recommends the importance of prayer and changing life patterns.

Although most people can be helped, some battle the disease their whole lives. Confronting depression in healthy ways, he promises, can improve relationships with God, others, and ourselves.
