Publisher Description

Eunice Bug Smoot was 13 years old when her grandfather put her soul up as collateral on his dream car -- a classic 1958 Cadillac Biarritz. Now, five years later, Papa C is dead and buried, and Bug is trying to make it on her own by delivering pizzas and staying one step ahead of her landlord. And then the repo man arrives. Only Mr. Beals -- stinking to high heaven of rotten eggs and sporting leathery wings -- is not just any repo man... just as Pesto, Bug's longtime unrequited crush, is not just any car wash attendant.

Set in El Paso, Texas, this debut novel is peppered with car chases, basketball, a séance, true love, immigrant agents of a totally different sort, and, oh yeah, the Devil himself. Mostly, though, it features an irrepressible, memorable, wisecracking, absolutely fearless main character who will stop at nothing to win her freedom and protect her free will.

"the reason why I chose this book is because when my reading teacher tolled us about this book it sounded interasting so I started reading the book and I found that this book is quite interasting. The genre of this book is pairnormal or fantisy but Im thinking more pairnormal. The setting where the book take plase is in "Bug" (the mean character) apartment and the apartment is two hundred sqare foot roach motel with half bath, no phone, no cadle, and no air conditioner. the mean character name is Bug Smoot how is eighteen year olded how is a black Tejanos. the hole book is about how bugs is going to get her soul back and along the way she meets the demon that has her soul they resolv the problom by getting her soul back. This book was quite good and I do reacamend people read this book."

" Supernatural romantic comedy set in the barrio of El Paso, TX. 18-year-old Bug Smoot is having a bad day. Her landlord threatens to evict her, her greasy boss fires her, and someone's egged her car. At the car wash run by crush, Pesto, she discovers that a demon is responsible for the vandalism, and that (thanks to a bad loan signed by her deceased granddad) he's come to collect her soul. Coyote spirits, demons, djinns, glorified ghostbusters, Beelzebub, and old Scratch himself all make appearances as Bug battles for control over her destiny. "

" Witty and sassy, this novel tells the story of Bug, a half black half Latina basketball-playing, pizza-delivering 18-year-old; and how she fell in love while coming out on top with the devil over a deal her uncle made for a car. "

" I appreciate the author's attempt to write from the point of view of minority voices that are not represented enough in casual fiction. It seems like anytime a story comes from a non-white-male (so to speak) perspective, it's serious, heavy, and for older readers. So I was excited to read this funny, zany YA story. But it quickly became obvious that the storyline wasn't so interesting, the writing wasn't so great, and I found his representation of these teens almost offensively stereotyped. "

" Very fun book. Kind of reminds me of the TV show Reaper. The girl in the story must fight to regain her soul and her free will which was sold to the Devil when her now deceased Grandfather sold his soul for a Cadillac---and Bug was the co-signed if he defaulted. She gets a little help from a cute boy named Pesto and his Mama and uses her brains and her talents at basketball to work her way out of the situation. "

" I think the book is not bad, honestly. But I am still on a I-don't-spend-a-minute-with-a-book-I-don't-crave-enough-trip. So, Bug, Beals and Pesto have to go after 109 pages. Forgive my lack of enthusiasm, Mr. Gill. "
