Jill Strathern left town for the big city and never looked back - until she returned home years later to run a small law practice. It turns out her childhood crush, Mac Kendrick, a burned-out LAPD cop, has also come back to sleepy Los Lobos. Even though Mac rejected her back in high school, Jill can't deny the attraction she still feels for him.

Now Jill and Mac are tangled in enough drama to satisfy the most jaded L.A. denizens - Mafia dons, social workers, angry exes and one very quirky eight-year-old make even the simplest romance complicated. And it all goes to prove that when it comes to affairs of the heart, there's no place like home. An unlikely pair...but a perfect match.

" I thought this book was awesome. It was really touching and nice. It really portrays a mother daughter relationship on the brink of breaking and then fixing itself. I love sarah dessen and thought this book was wonderful. "

" I was a little disappointed in the ending of the book, however overall I thought that it was a well written book. Also, I had a hard time getting into the book, until about half-way through, but finally finished! "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Mikka Azores | 1/20/2014

" This was an okay book for me and it followed suit of Sarah Dessen's style. The good thing about the book is how it showed what true friends are. "

" if it's not i'm the editor for this book in Vietnamese, i'll have no chance to read it. it's not my type of books. it's for young adults yet i gave up on this kind of books some time ago for some reasons. however, when i was given this book (at first i thought i would just read through it quickly to sense Sarah's style), it impressed me. it's not the best book or something like that, not even the classic type. it's just something essential for one's life. it can refesh your lofe somehow, cause it's real and pure :). "

" I think that it would've saved Halley a lot of trouble if she had talked to her mom in a peaceful way. The thing with her is that she's always agitated with her mom. I mean, come on! Everything in her reasoning was so petty. So, I guess I just don't like this book. "

" Still remains one of my favourite books of all time - it felt very realistic.. and it felt good to read about someone of the same age going through something that although was not exactly the same in experience, was very similar in terms of influence and feelings "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Kelsie Barnes | 8/6/2012

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Abby Rosmarin | 4/2/2012

" This is one of the few YA books I'll still read as an adult. Wonderful book, great insight on teenage relationships, lightyears better than the movie they made based off of it (and another of Dessen's books). "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Lesley E | 2/14/2012

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Mum | 3/13/2011

" It was a quick read, but not believable, even by romance novel standards. If the absurdity was meant as humor, it fell flat. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Photojim | 7/20/2010

" I'll let this one squeak by with a very low three. The working relationships is a bit far fetched. I also don't really see the consistency of the characters of their motivations. However, I liked Emily. And a cute little girl is usually enough to add 1/2 star right there. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Jen | 7/8/2010

" This was decent. The plot was decent, former crushes reunite in the midst of the mob coming to town, spousal abuse, divorce. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Robin | 8/11/2009

" Rich lawyer girl moves back to hometown. Her first love has moved back there too. The Mob comes to town, as well. Eccentric aunt falls for the mobster. Abit predictable but entertaining. "
