Publisher Description

A beautifully written insight into the stresses, strains and successes of working for the London Ambulance service.

Is there anyone who hasn't wondered about the state of the occupant of an ambulance, screaming along with its sirens on and blue lights flashing? Have you? And have you wondered about the other people inside the ambulance, maybe fighting to save the patient's life? Or have you considered that the ambulance may be another 'maternataxi' ordered by a woman who can't be bothered to book a real cab and who then complains she can't smoke on the way to hospital? And that the medical technician inside might just be desperate to get back home from a busy shift, to have a cup of tea and catch up with his blog?

Meet Tom Reynolds. Tom is an Emergency Medical Technician who works for the London Ambulance Service in East London. He has kept a blog of his daily working life since 2003 and his award-winning writing is, by turn, moving, cynical, funny, heart-rending and compassionate. It is never less than compelling.

From the tragic to the hilarious, from the heartwarming to the terrifying, the stories Tom tells give a fascinating - and at times alarming - picture of life in inner-city Britain, and the people who are paid to mop up after it.

"Finished this in three sittings, which is exceptionally odd for me. It's written in a blog-posty style, as it is just the most interesting posts from his blog, but it's very hard to stop reading. A very interesting insight into the real-life activities of the London health services. "

" Okay historical YA novel set in the 20s. Did a couple of things I really hate in books (switching POV every chapter with multiple protagonists, starting at the end of the story then 'going back to explain'), but otherwise okay. "

" I liked it, but seeing as of how I hadn't read the first two books, it was a little confusing. :D (When I bought the book I couldn't tell that it was the 3rd in a series) "

" Adapted from the blog of a driver in the London Ambulance Service, this is a very enjoyable read. It's not exactly literature, but it does give you a good impression of what life is like driving for the ambulance service. "

" Very boringly written, speeding along with very little description or detail. He uses a lot of abbreviation and I couldn't make sense of that. Stopped reading pretty soon. Shame, because the subject matter is highly interesting to me. "

" Witty, happy, sad, judgemental, thoughtful. This collection of blog posts from an 'anonymous' paramedic in the LAS has it all. One minute you want to laugh with him and other times you are struck with the reality that these people have to face day in day out. "
