"King Lear is a play that rages like the storm it depicts, a sky-shuddering swirl of emotion, metaphor and language. What else can be said about this masterpiece of the English language. Very few works equal it -- very few. It is certainly one of the few books I'll be re-reading throughout my life. " — Keith (5 out of 5 stars)

" Perhaps if I had read A Midsummer Night's Dream in high school, I would have liked Billy Shakes. As it is, I didn't and I don't. Sorry, literature world: deal with it. "
" Love the play. Some of the criticism takes things a little too far beyond the realm of believability. On a bright side, I expected it to be much more religious in tone. I prefer the format of the Folger better. "
" Have to confess not my style. "
" I enjoyed reading this play, it was my favorite of all the plays I have read so far. It had a lot going on, and was fun to follow. "
" Who would not shed a tear On fate of old naive King Lear "
" "When the mind's free, The body's delicate." "
" I can't say I understand every bit of 'King Lear', and I never get how Cordelia dies, but generally I think it's fairly good. "
" Better than I assumed it would be. The language of this one is better than the story as a whole. "
William Shakespeare (1564–1616), English poet and dramatist of the Elizabethan and early Jacobean period, is the most widely known author in all of English literature and often considered the greatest. He was an active member of a theater company for at least twenty years, during which time he wrote many great plays. Plays were not prized as literature at the time and Shakespeare was not widely read until the middle of the eighteenth century, when a great upsurge of interest in his works began that continues today.
