Marjorie Miller is a foreign affairs editorial and op-ed writer for the Los Angeles Times. Previously, she was the paper's foreign editor for six years and a correspondent for 17 years in Latin America, the Mideast, and Europe.

Gholam Reza Afkhami is the senior scholar at the Foundation of Iranian Studies. Before the revolution of 1979, he was a professor of political science at the National University of Iran. He is the author of The Life and Times of the Shah, among other books.

Laurie Brand is a professor and director of the School of International Relations at USC. She specializes in Middle East international relations and inter-Arab politics. Brand is the author of Citizens Abroad: States and Migration in the Middle East and North Africa.

Patrick Tyler has reported extensively from the Middle East and Washington for the New York Times and the Washington Post. His book A World of Trouble: The White House and the Middle East - From the Cold War to the War on Terror examines U.S. Middle East policy through 10 presidencies from Eisenhower to George W. Bush.
