" With all due respect to Agatha Christie and a tip of the hat to Hercule Poirot, there is no better fictional detective than Sherlock Holmes "

" All of the stories were amazing but the last was my favorite. Only Sherlock Holmes would spend two years in a disguise to unravel a German plot on the eve of World War I. It was amazing as always. "

" Almost through my rereading of the Canon in a year. This one was shorter than I remembered it, and Doyle is definitely recycling some of his earlier plots, but there is some really nice writing, particularly in the title story. Still a 5. "
