" A big let-down after the first two books in the series. While you expect a certain level of the bizarre and complexity in a Bryant & May mystery, the solution to this one is laughably contrived and far-fetched. Bryant & May are as fun as ever and as usual there's some interesting history sprinkled throughout, however I found the writing tough to follow at times. The members of the extended Whitstable family all seem to be barely varied versions of ths same stereotype (the spoiled rich), which quicly grew predictable and tiresome. If this were the first book in the series (or the first one I read), I'm not sure I'd bother with a second. As it is, based on the strength of Full Dark Houseand The Water Room, I plan on giving the fourth a try. "

" Another great installment. They go back and forth between eras in the PCUs history and this case if from the 70s. Wonderful plot and the Whitstable family are great villains even if they don't mean to be. "
