In order to save his friend's life, Wyr sentinel Rune Ainissesthai made a bargain with Vampyre Queen Carling - without knowing what she would ask from him in return. But when Rune attempts to make good on his debt, he finds a woman on the edge.

Recently, Carling's power has become erratic, forcing her followers to flee in fear. Despite the danger, Rune is drawn to the ailing Queen and decides to help her find a cure for the serpent's kiss - the vampyric disease that's killing her.

With their desire for each other escalating just as quickly as Carling's instability spirals out of control, the sentinel and the Queen will have to rely on each other if they have any hope of surviving the serpent's kiss.

Listener Opinions

" No real deviation from the first two books in the series. Same basic story line. I did have issues with the whole make-over thing, though. Especially when Rune started putting make up on Carling. "

" Thea Harrison is really on a roll. Her ability to create heros and heroines who are, believably, thousands of years old and magical is impressive. I have some quibbles with the book--I wish she would tell us less and show us more how witty Rune is. I am not clear on what, exactly, was making Carling sick or how they figured it out. But I couldn't put the book down, and I know I will reread it. "

" Rune is one of my favorite characters in this series. I enjoyed this book and liked the romance. Carling is a bit strange but I think that is intended since she is a several thousand year old vampyre. "

" Not as good as the first but better than the second. "

" Another good addition to the series. I did miss the other characters that we saw in Books 1 & 2 because there was very little interaction but I still enjoyed the book. I read the chapter from the next one and can't wait for that one to come out. "

" i liked this book not as much as the first 2 in the series for some reason it did not grab me as much as the others "

" This novel was a little disappointing. I didn't feel the chemistry between the hero and the heroine. I do not know if I will keep reading this series. I like Dragon Bound, but the books that followed weren't at the level of to the first book. "

" I liked this book, but was dissatisfied with the ending and am beginning to realise that none of the later books will ever be as awesome as Dragon Bound was. Doesn't mean they suck, but they're good instead of great. "

" I loved this character Rune when we meet him in first few books. But I just couldn't get into this one. IDK why. About half way thru I skimmed the rest to get the story line and haven't gone back. Maybe I'll try again some time. "
