In this fifth book in the Magykal series, Septimus ends up on a captivatingly beautiful island, one of seven set in a sparkling sea. He's stranded there with his badly injured dragon, Spit Fyre, along with Jenna and Beetle. There are some strange things about the island, including a Magykal girl named Syrah, a cat-shaped lighthouse that has lost its Light, and an eerie presence that sings to Septimus—can he escape the persistent call?
Trouble is also brewing for Lucy and Wolf Boy, who have become entangled with some nefarious sailors at sea, and for Milo Banda, Jenna's father, who is harboring a mysterious treasure chest in his ship's hold.
Charismatic storyteller Angie Sage continues Septimus Heap's Magykal journey with more laugh-out-loud adventures, more enchanting charms and spells, and an ever-deepening understanding of the interior life of a young hero.

"In her 5th Septimus Heap book, Annie Sage continues her same winning formula; a seemingly innocuous task unravels into an epic and often humorous adventure complete with an intriguing cast of wizards, witches, wolf-raised boys, royalty in training, ghosts, pirates, a dragon, and, new this book, a Genie and a Syren-possessed three hundred year old wizard apprentice. The action and camaraderie between friends entices readers of all ages, though, typical of YA fantasy, the adult characters often bumble their way through, offer well meaning attempts to block the youth from doing what needs to be done, and ultimately, must rely on the young characters to save them from their own mistakes. Adult characters who might get in the way of the action, such as the Heap parents, are inexplicably absent this time around. Sage's plot strategy may not be entirely unpredictable or unique, and there are occasional holes, but ultimately her characters and their fast-paced, witty adventures win out."
