Forty-seven yachts crossed the starting line for the £100,000 Tristar - 8,000 miles of sailing in the first single-handed ocean race to be held in the northern winter.
Martin Savage gave up everything in order to compete, but now he's well on his way to achieving his greatest ambition. Forty hours out at sea, struggling in gale conditions, he finds a stowaway - a girl in flight from an unhappy love affair. No longer single-handed, he will be disqualified if she is discovered.
As the race continues, so the dynamics between Savage and the girl intensify. The yachtsman is driven by a compulsive obsession to win but the girl threatens his ruin.
