Publisher Description

As the last Healer in the Fifteen Realms, Avry of Kazan is in a unique position: in the minds of friends and foes alike, she no longer exists. Despite her need to prevent the megalomaniacal King Tohon from winning control of the Realms, Avry is also determined to find her sister and repair their estrangement. And she must do it alone, as Kerrick, her partner and sole confidant, returns to Alga to summon his country into battle.

Though she should be in hiding, Avry will do whatever she can to support Tohon's opponents. That includes infiltrating a holy army, evading magic sniffers, teaching forest skills to soldiers, and figuring out how to stop Tohon's most horrible creations yet: an army of the walking dead - human and animal alike and nearly impossible to defeat.

War is coming and Avry is alone. Unless she figures out how to do the impossible again.

" It's a little slow in the middle, but the characters and the end more than make up for it. "

" I didn't feel as invested in this book as I did the first. While the romance plot was developed at the end of the previous book, the lovers spent the book separated which fortunately kept it at a simmer aside from thinking of each other one and off. Avry didn't seem to be quite as strong of a female protagonist this time around; still good but not at her previous level. I was interested to see how much the world is developing even for the characters. It goes to show that one shouldn't rely purely on history for what can/will happen. Aside from the characters not seeming to reach their previous level, the thing that got me in this book was the language. There were moments when I thought, "I can't believe this character just said that. That was way too educated a remark for him/her." Plus it dipped into modern slang at points such as when something was described as "cool." Maybe the first book did this as well but it was definitely noticeable in this volume. "

" Honestly, this book was a bit of a disappointment. Snyder is great at the YA Romance while still adding in great characters and plots, which is why I loved Touch of Power so much - the relationship between Kerrick and Avry was full of romance, drama, and comedy. For the bulk of the second book, they are apart, and to me, the best part of the story was neglected. The plot is still great, I love the interplay between the different kingdoms, the magic, and the non-magical characters. However, I was left so disappointment with the lack of Kerrick and Avry that I won't bother reading the third book if this kind of separation occurs again. "

" I am definitely enjoying this series. If you liked the Study series, you'll definitely love this one. In fact, immediately after finishing this book, I re-read the Study series just because I wanted more of the same writing style. Only problem? THE NEXT ONE ISN'T OUT YET! "

" Scent of Magic did not hold my attention and seemed long. Torturing the main characters by keeping them apart the entire book became a tiresome device. I will read Healer #3 because I am invested in the characters, but I will not reread Scent. "
