Two years after the conclusion of The Blue Hour, Merci and her son are living with her father. She's also dating Mike McNally, a respected fellow officer. Merci and Mike are the golden couple on the force, and even if Merci doesn't passionately love him, there's a sort of comfortable inevitability to it all.
But everything explodes when a young prostitute is found brutally murdered and Mike emerges as the primary suspect. As the lead investigator on the case, Merci must do the unthinkable - expose and arrest her lover. Sifting through the clues with a growing sense of panic and outrage in her gut, Merci has to work hard to balance where the truth is leading her against where her heart is telling her to go.
Meanwhile, an old unsolved case from the 60s is thrown on her desk - the murder of Patti Bailey, another prostitute with ties to the force - and the two cases conspire to turn Merci's world upside down.

" It was a good read, a little long in some parts, but I didn't want to put it down. "
" I like this series, this book started out slow, but then it took off. It had some twists and turns that kept me guessing. "
" was ok not as good as his others "
" Orange County homicide detective Merci Rayborn looks into the death of a young woman who worked as a high class escort and a cold case of another woman on the game who was killed in the sixties. Merci is a hard character to like but the plot and narration by Anna Fields made the book interesting. "
" Merci Rayborn is back to solve the death of two prostitutes: one in the present and one in the past, linked by dirty police secrets. Her love life is still an unmitigated disaster. "
" The Second Merci Rayborn. His books get better and better. "
" Merci Rayborn book #2 was not as good as The Blue Hour - book #1. I'm hoping book #3 will have more focus. "
" This book is full of dark intrigue and deep emotions. The characters and sense of place are so real. "
" A real gritty thriller. "
" It was quite good. I liked Merci "
" Merci isn't my favorite Parker character, but it's an enjoyable read none the less. "
" Very Good; Continuing character: Merci Reyborn; cop is involved in two cases, both involving murdered prostitutes, one from 30 years ago; both point to police involvement in the deaths. "
" Great thriller could hardly put it down at times. "
" This one was a harder book to get through than the others of his I've read. His main characters always are going through so much stuff that it can be difficult to read at times. "
