" "Push" is by far the most inspirational book i have ever read. The deep details of the 16 year old girl being raped by her step father multiple time and the verbal, mental, physical, and emotional abuse she must take from her mother while pregnant her step fathers child and at the time also having another baby from the age 14. With very little education main character, Precious, faces many obstacles in order to build up the ambition to strive for a better life. i was mainly inspired by the hard work and dedication she put in to learn how to read and write. with very little help she did what she had to do. This story will leave you in suspense wanting to know more and more about the outcome of her life and what is soon to happen next. "

" This was a striking book that will definitely stick with me for a long time. I didn't give it many stars I think mostly because I didn't feel connected to the main character at all. This is probably a fault of my own, and not Sapphire. "

" It took me just a few hours to whip through "Precious". It was short but not sweet. It was rather heartbreaking reading about Precious Jones life. Raped, pregnant at 12 and 16, severely abused by her father and lost in a the world of Harlem, she overcame a lot through out the book. It's a tough one at times, very disturbing, but Precious made me care about her and I wanted to see how things turned out for her. "

" Loved this book. It is brutal and unflinching. It is a narrative of so many abused and mistreated girls lives. It makes me sad that this is many girls real life, but just cause it makes me uncomfortable and sad does not mean I will turn my back on it. "

" I certainly have a better understanding of why so many girls end up on the street. This book was gritty and at times very difficult to read, but it was compelling because it was about real people for me. I really wanted to see Precious rise above the horrible life she had been dealt. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Yi-fang | 5/21/2011

" This is a book that effected me emotionally. 'Push' is about a teenage girl named Precious, who is in constant abuse by her mother. The book is written as if the reader is a witness to every action in Precious's life. This book is heart breaking in the beginning, and heart warming towards the end. "

" I gave this only three stars only because it was such a tough novel to read. I can't imagine the amount of sadness and abuse the main character struggle with. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone but if someone asked me what I thought I would say to give it a try but to be prepared. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Erica | 5/15/2011

" Graphic, repulsive, and I couldn't put it down! The growth of the main character is what makes this short novel so stunning. I'm going to have to see the movie now. "
