An electrifying first novel that shocks by its language, its circumstances, and its brutal honesty, Push recounts a young black street-girl's horrendous and redemptive journey through a Harlem inferno. For Precious Jones, 16 and pregnant with her father's child, miraculous hope appears, and the world begins to open up for her when a courageous, determined teacher bullies, cajoles, and inspires her to learn to read, to define her own feelings, and set them down in a diary. " "Push" is by far the most inspirational book i have ever read. The deep details of the 16 year old girl being raped by her step father multiple time and the verbal, mental, physical, and emotional abuse she must take from her mother while pregnant her step fathers child and at the time also having another baby from the age 14. With very little education main character, Precious, faces many obstacles in order to build up the ambition to strive for a better life. i was mainly inspired by the hard work and dedication she put in to learn how to read and write. with very little help she did what she had to do. This story will leave you in suspense wanting to know more and more about the outcome of her life and what is soon to happen next. "

" I found this book difficult to read. The lingo is real, but I guess I am not use to reading the lingo. "

" This was a striking book that will definitely stick with me for a long time. I didn't give it many stars I think mostly because I didn't feel connected to the main character at all. This is probably a fault of my own, and not Sapphire. "
