Publisher Description

Pride and Prejudice is a masterpiece of wit and perception, ridiculing the superficial manners of Jane Austen’s time. But it is more than just social satire. Notice, in particular, how the author’s close attention to detail makes the events and characters so true to life. Above all, enjoy the story—its sheer narrative force and humor—and enter a world of snobbery, romance, and uncertainty, in which people behave casually, indifferently or even cruelly—in short just like people behave everywhere in the world today.

"It feels strange to give 5 stars to a book, but this is book is an exception. At first I Thought the story will be boring, but it's quite good, and I'm glad I read it. The narration is smart, although it's quite boring for me. The story is not very complicated either, but I love the way Jane chose the personality for each characters. I especially amused by the personalities of the main character (Elizabeth). She is a smart young woman, a character that's really hard to find in today's novel. Anyway, considering the era when this book was written, the story is wonderfully told, beautifully said, and strangely, amusing."

" A great classic story that is one of my favorites. I would say this story would be for a very advance 6th grade class. It would take the students awhile to be able to finish the book due to them needing to break down the way the book is written so that they can understand it. "

" This is easily my favorite book. I have read and watched so many versions of it that I cannot even recount clearly. When I first read the Chinese version when I was only 12, I only considered it a Cinderella story. But when I finally bought an English version and finished it in the Spring of 2011, I finally understood why critics kept talking about Jane Austen's delicacy and wit. I simply cannot wait to attend the class about Jane Austen in the fall and read this wonderful piece along with Persuasion and Emma again. "

About Jane Austen

Jane Austen (1775–1817) is considered by many scholars to be the first great woman novelist. Born in Steventon, England, she later moved to Bath and began to write for her own and her family’s amusement. Her novels, set in her own English countryside, depict the daily lives of provincial middle-class families with wry observation, a delicate irony, and a good-humored wit.
