" This book captivated my attention from the beginning - the writing style was very easy to read. This book is about a police chief (who grew up Amish but left their world) investigating an Amish family murder. "

" This book seemed a bit melodramatic to me, but overall it was a good story. The main character was a bit annoying at times simply because, on several occasions, she seemed unable, or at least a bit slow, to connect two pieces of information to one another. I kept wanting to yell at her and say "Remember such-and-such? Connect the dots!" "

" Castillo handles the brooding Amish countryside very well. Through the work on a gristly murder, we see the characters clash in their varied values and "English." The characters are very well delineated, and are real as though we would know if we lived in their town. Highly recommended and I look forward to the next in the series "
