Publisher Description

He counts her smiles every day and night at the train station. And morning and evening, the beautiful commuter acknowledges him - just like she does everyone else on the platform. But Blake Hartt is not like the others...he's homeless.

Memories of a broken childhood have robbed him of peace and twisted delusions into his soul. He stays secluded from the sun, sure the world would run from him in the harsh light of day.

Each day, Livia McHugh smiles politely and acknowledges her fellow commuters as she waits for the train to the city. She dismisses this kindness as nothing special, just like her. She's the same as a million other girls - certainly no one to be cherished. But special or not, she smiles every day, never imagining that someone would rely on the simple gesture as if it were air to breathe.

When the moment comes that Livia must do more than smile, without hesitation she steps into the fray to defend the homeless man. And she's surprised to discover an inexplicable connection with her new friend. After danger subsides, their smiles become conversation. Their words usher in a friendship, which awakens something in each of them. But it's not long before their bond must prove its strength.

Entanglements from the past challenge both their love and their lives. Blake's heart beats for Livia's, even if her hands have to keep its rhythm.

Love is patient. Love is kind. Love never fails. Love never fails, right?

In an interwoven tale of unlikely loves and relationships forged by fire, Debra Anastasia takes readers into the darkest corners of human existence, only to show them the radiant power of pure adoration and true sacrifice. Complicated families and confused souls find their way to light in this novel, which manages to be racy, profane, funny, and reverent all at once.

"I really enjoyed this story. The author wove a wonderful tale with her characters. Blake is such a sweet and gentle man in the beginning of the story. In the end we see the strength and conviction this man has for his friends and the woman he loves. I really like Livie. She has lots of decisions to make in her life. She doesn't feel she is a strong person, but as she commutes everyday on the train and smiles to Blake she finds herself. She becomes a strong and believes that what's inside the person is so much more than what the eye beholds. Entertaining and enjoyable."

" Uhmmm.. This book kinda failed to catch my attention. It lacked d needed intensity & depth of emotion to get me hooked. I loved Beckett & Eve's lovestory more than Blake & Livia's.. Though i enjoyed some parts of d book, it didn't as much as convinced me to like it much more. "

" This book is gorgeous. I went through a box Kleenex and laughed until I had a stitch in my side and I held my breathe on more then one occasion. I can't recommend this highly enough. So beautifully written. "

" Ridiculously OTT. Sometimes that was good and sometimes that was bad. The overblown romance was at times cringe-worthy but Beckett's unbroken badass-ness was refreshing. Props to the author for tackling the story of a hero who is both homeless and damaged, but I think the illustration of his character could have been a little more subtle. 3 stars because I read the nearly 400 pages in a matter of hours. " Loved this book! The way it was written was great as you were able to get a perspective from all the characters, allowing you a better understanding throughout the story. It had so many heart squeezing moments ah! Blake was so cute! Highly recommend this book if you love romance but are also looking for something a bit different :) "

" Okay, I have to say this because this book really irritated me. The premise of this book was great. The writing wasn't bad and the characters were interesting. However, the fact that the book read like a first draft really made me mad. Under normal circumstances, I could over look the bad grammar, missing words, undiscipherable sentences because I understand self published books can be like this. I have read MANY self published that have had these problems and I could still get through the story and find entertainment from the reading. This book however, I could not. The book cost $6.99 on Amazon. The price led me to believe that the story would be more polished than other self pubs when in fact, it was one of the worst I have come across. I love authors that self publish, but they need to realize the value of their work. Authors such as Susan Ee and Tammy Blackwell are among the best that have self published books worth their weight in gold.Yet, both have books that are less than $3 and they were better than many I have spent $12-20 on. The key is that they polish their manuscripts before they put them out there for sale. I think that the author of Poughkeepsie, needed to find a few more eyes to look at her manuscript before she decided to publish it herself. It would have made all the difference if she had and I probably would have rated it better. As it is now, I feel like the book was unreadable and therefore I had to put it under the did not finish category after about 40% in. So sad because I really wanted to love it. "

" This book was delicious and will make other books pale in comparison for a while. I read the last page and felt as if I had just had a wonderful 12 course meal, cooked to perfection. It left me sated yet wanting more. I LOST COUNT of the times I sighed, gasped, cried and laughed. The characters were well developed and I loved all of them, even the ones that did really horrible things. Blake was the most interesting "hero" character I've ever read, it was refreshing to have a sensitive, far from perfect guy! I can't wait for Book 2. Please write faster, Debra! "

" Great read. The unusual storyline grabbed me. Language a bit strong at times, but in context with characters. Loved the intense connection between Blake and Livia. This book has everything: action, suspense, steamy romance, yet the love scenes were not cliched like so many others I've read. Would love to watch a movie rendition of this book. "

" Loved this book! What a great cast of characters! A story that seems so "NOT POSSIBLE IN REAL LIFE", but made me totally believe it could be real! Love, acceptance, suspense, drama, family & the ties that bind, ups & downs, victories and disappointment. A must read in my opinion! "

" I liked this book and I especially liked the characters. The plot, however, was a bit far fetched. Not to say my interest wasn't there. I wanted to know what happened next and the romantic parts were good. "

" This was an amazing book. Debra Anastasia created very flawed, but very likable characters. Its not very common to actually root for a cold blooded killer because you understand him. Beautiful story overall! "

" Ugh,this was way too melodramatic and the dialogue bordered on cheesy at times. The only parts I enjoyed involved Beckett and Eve. While the beginning drew me in, the last half was just me trying to quickly get through it to see how it would end. Overall, an OK book. "
