The Cheyenne were horse Indians, almost as skilled as the Comanche - and twice as deadly when they were on the warpath. Led by Bear Claw, who had a personal score to settle with the white man, they ran roughshod over the territory, killing, looting, raping and destroying everything in their path. The regular cavalry was slaughtered by the cunning Cheyenne chief. No one could stop him except the... PONY SOLDIERS. Like the Cheyenne, they lived off the land, ignored sub-zero temperatures and killed without mercy. If the army had given a bounty on scalps, the Pony Soldiers would have been rich. But for a few dollars a month, they took their profit in blood.
