Fueled by the knowledge that notoriety is better than failure, witty, unconventional Josie does what no proper young lady should—she challenges fate. She discards her corset and flirts outrageously. She attends the horse races and allows an arrogant rakehell to whisk her behind the stables for a surreptitious kiss . . . and is caught!

She doesn't want to marry the young hellion—but who's to help? Her chaperone keeps disappearing for mysterious appointments; her guardian is on his wedding trip; and his friend the Earl of Mayne is too busy staring into the eyes of his exquisite French fiancée.

Can a marriage forced by stuffy convention and unwilling desire become the match of the season?

" I liked this best of the 4 sisters. Mayne has been a presence in each of the books, so I was quite satisfied with him finally finding his match.I think James did a good job with the lack of confidence in each character and how they all (Josie, Mayne, Silvia, Griselda and Darlington all "found" themselves, their "real" selves. This is quite a romantic book and just what I needed to read at the time! "

" A bit too many plots eventhough I could still follow the story but the change of the characters' feelings are a bit too unbelievable. How to say this.. Like every characters Eloisa has created, they are all interesting charactes (and unique). I actually like them. Josie is a spunky heroine. And Earl of Mayne is always be a Mr. Maybe in previous Essex sisters until... he's the Mr. Right in this last installment. I think it's quite alright. "

" formulaic but appealing female character. "

" Excluding the "possible rape" plot device, it was okay. That really pulled me out of the story with 'dnw'. Otherwise the heroine and the hero were very fun. "

" Another great read from Eloisa James. "

" Nice to see Mayne play a significant part in this. The quotes got a little old. What is it with cover blurbs that really don't reflect the book at all. It's insane what I thought was going to happen versus the way it was worded on the cover. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 N.V. | 12/5/2013

" I liked it but I wished it stayed focused on two characters only. After a while I got tired of reading the side character's love life. "

" Although the secondary characters were interesting, there was a bit too much of them. "

" it was a pretty good story when it focused on Josie and Garret but all the other happenings in the story made it pretty boring. Even then it took forever to actually get to their romance...not the best book i've ever read but it was okay... "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Widhy | 9/17/2012

" hahahah akhrnya....mayne sang kambing hitam essex sister punya cerita juga....tapi heran juga,,,kok mentoknya malah ma josie ya?di yang kesatu saat mayne mulai diceritain, josie masih sekolah lho....kesannya jadi kaya pedofilia...tapi ceritanya tetep keren...plg keren diantara essex sister yang lain "

" Not as clever as its three counterparts. I'm not sure if it was I felt the characters where unbelievable to come together or what. But this one was my least favourite of the Essex sisters books. "

" I really enjoyed this story about the jaded Garrett and the fiesty, well endowed young Josie. I thought it was a great wrap up to the Essex sisters series. The epilogue was wonderful. "

" As usual, James' pacing is all over the place, but in this novel it kind of works. It was good to see the development of their relationship through several phases. The ending was a bit farcical, but I suppose it had to be tied up somehow. "

" ini salah satu novel favorit saya karena saya suka dengan tokoh utama laki laki Earl of Mayne yang mewakili sosok suami SIAGA bagi sang istri.. "

About the Author

Eloisa James, a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, wrote her first novel after graduating from Harvard, but alas, it was rejected by every possible publisher. After she got an MPhil from Oxford, a PhD from Yale, and a job as a Shakespeare professor, she tried again, with much greater success. In 2013 she won a Rita Award for Best Romance Novella. She teaches Shakespeare in the English department at Fordham University in New York. She is the mother of two children and, in a particularly delicious irony for a romance writer, is married to a genuine Italian knight.
