Publisher Description

Set in the darkest days of the Great Depression, Paper Moon is the story of what happens when Addie's mother is killed in a car crash, leaving her daughter in the questionable hands of Long Boy, a con-man who may or may not be her biological father. Together they set out on a rollicking journey through the Deep South, hustling every sucker in sight and proving time and time again that no matter how much money you make, it's no fun unless you're making it with somebody you love.

Brimming with humor, pathos, and an irresistible narrative energy, Paper Moon is American storytelling at its finest - tough, vibrant, and ripe for rediscovery.

"I adore this book. I love the hijinks, the characters and the story line. I hope my book club is as pleased to read it as I was. I read this book as a child and LOVED it so I was unsure if it would stand the test of time for me, but it did. And I could still identify with the main character."

" A fun read. The last 'event' was very contrived and came together a bit too neatly, but otherwise, the con games were 'slick.' And I mean that in a good way. "

" "Addie Pray" by Joe David Brown is one of my favorite books, later made into the movie "Paper Moon", with Tatum O'Neal and Ryan O'Neal. I saw the movie first, and it is good, but the book is so much better, with a lot more adventures! A great story about a father/daughter con artist team. "

" This was an enjoyable read. I liked how the author shows the storyline from the perspective of the young girl. The review says it is as good as To Kill A Mockingbird. I've read that book over a dozen times. This book definitely is not as good as TKAM, but it's good nonetheless. "

" This movie came out when I was a kid. I loved the movie, so I had to read the book. Now that I look at it as an adult, I'm not very impressed, but I recall really liking it back then. "

" An engaging book about 11-year old orphan, Addie, who travels the South with her perhaps daddy, scheming and conning just about everyone. What a team of "gentle sharpsters." It's very humorous...made me laugh out loud in places. A classic! "

" This was an enjoyable read (listen) about a couple of post-depression grifters making their way around the southeast "doing business." The stories of their exploits are very entertaining, but the story lacks sufficient resolution to be one of my favorites. "
