From award-winning mystery author J.A. Jance comes the seventh novel featuring Bisbee, Arizona's star sleuth - the courageous and capable Sheriff Joanna Brady. When a wealthy widow is mysteriously murdered, Joanna has more than enough suspects. As she struggles to determine which one is capable of murder, Joanna uncovers a tangled web of graft and corruption that goes straight to the heart of the local government. Caught between her friends and foes, and juggling single motherhood with a demanding career, Joanna turns to her network of friends and makes her way through a minefield of conflicting loyalties to solve one of the most difficult - and dangerous - cases she's ever faced.

"I tho't it was interesting that Jance gave Sheriff Brady a "wife" in the form of Butch, who just sold his bar, so has money, is writing a novel, so is not "unemployed," but has the free time to take care of Brady's dgt when she is up to her eyes in work. My 1st Jance, will read more."

" This is throne where Joanna and Butch get engaged. There are several intertwined mysteries and a completely separate subplot, plus the personal stories of the continuing characters. A lot of the message seemed to deal with hoe society treats the vulnerability of the elderly, and the developmently disabled. I read an ebook version which had lots of annoying typos. "

" I enjoy this series but I always read it out of sequence - she's married, she's not,... I thought the situation with the guy who works with her but is obsessed with her was a little strange but I liked it overall. "
