Our Companions, Our Enemies is the true story of author Steven R. McFadden's journey to victory over negative emotions so strong that they seemed like real people.
As a child, Steve would often talk to Dee and Ann, the twin sisters he believed lived in his house. What his parents thought were imaginary friends instead turned out to be manifestations of the spirits of Depression and Anger that followed the McFaddens like members of the family.
God revealed to Steve that these spirits he thought loved him were actually bitter adversaries who wanted to consume him. Though Steve began to draw closer to God, the challenges of his life took their toll. Caring for a physically disabled mother and living with a physically distant father, experiencing feelings of rejection when he was sent to live with friends, and wrestling with the call of God on his life left this man broken and in need of grace.
