Publisher Description

'Either you kill the bull, or the bull kills you' - traditional proverb.

Chief Inspector Max Cámara hates bullfighting, but one hot afternoon in Valencia he has to judge a festival corrida starring Spain's most famous young matador. That night he is back in the ring, and what he finds on the bloodstained sand shocks the city of Valencia to its core.

As Cámara hunts his prey through the streets and bars, firecrackers echo for the festival of Fallas, and the town hall election. The anti-bullfighting campaigners and the breeders of prize beasts fight to the death. The bullring is a test of virility, but should it be a site of national pride or shame?

Or the Bull Kills You has a brilliantly authentic setting and a great detective, with a love of flamenco and brandy. This is the first of a series of books starring the quirky and forceful Cámara - a man clearly destined to make his mark.

"What a good read! Valencia, Fallas festival, police, politics, bull fighting history and action.....food, romance and more than enough action. Perhaps the best chases I have read on foot..... Colorful descriptions and I hope to read more of Max Camara...."

" Fantastic setting, and learn't so much about bullfighting, within a great story and without being lectured on a stance either way. Great characters. "

" Pretty standard detective/murder mystery elevated by its setting in Valencia, particularly the climactic chase through crowded streets during the Fallas celebration. "

" A fully realized place (Valencia, Spain), an attractive central character (a homicide chief inspector), and a crime revolving around what's either a memorable sport or a depraved cultural carryover from the medieval world (bullfighting) are all strong supports for an otherwise ordinary mystery. " The bullfighting and the fiesta in Valencia make this book interesting and worthwhile reading. The mystery leaves a lot to be desired. The story does not flow very easily and the characters are hard to follow. The main character is good, has a lot of charm and is unorthodox for a police detective. "
