Publisher Description

Not everyone can take on the nightside. Not everyone tries. But Jill Kismet is not just anyone. She’s a Hunter, trained by the best — and in over her head. Welcome to the night shift . . . Praise for Lilith Saintcrow's Dante Valentine series: “This is the ultimate in urban fantasy!” - Romantic Times (Top Pick) “Saintcrow’s distinctive heroine is a tough, sarcastic, deadly swordswoman.” - Publishers Weekly

"I really enjoyed Night Shift. And I really, really liked Jill Kismet. She was tough, but at the same time vulnerable and almost child-like (granted, a very damaged child). I didn't like her mentor who, thankfully, was not in the book except for the occasional flashback. The action was intense and Lilith Saintcrow kept things flowing very nicely. There's a love interest, but their relationship is different from what I'm used to reading about. There's a kind of quiet intensity to it."

" First in series read second. No real damage... nice to be in sequence, but not totally necessary this time. Please see review of "Hunter's Prayer" regarding my delight at writing style and character development. Missed having Saul in this caste of characters, but Jill's other main helpers and obligations come into brilliant focus here. "

" What a terrible book! The story was dull, and the writing repetitive and uninspired. I skimmed the last 50 pages, and it took me a long time to read this book, it was just so dull. I should have found something else, but I have a hard time not finishing a book. The use of italics drove me nutty; a good writer doesn't need to use italics to emphasize a word, plot point, or situation. How many times do I need to hear about her wrist scar, etheric force, or her leather coat? The author even includes a glossary; leaving out the repetitive info and explaining stuff in the book would have been too difficult. I wont be looking for more in this series. "

" Started out strong and kept on going. A little confusing at times for me -- trying to figure out everything that was going on, but definitely a great start to a new series. "

" I liked this book, but for some reason found it confusing in some places, like, some things didnt quite make sense or connect for me. Gonna chalk it up to me not sleeping well lately :) Gonna finish reading the series thru tho as its by one of my favorite Authors :) "

" This book was kind of the same as so much out there but one good... no, better quality. These people are adults. I think I just might read the next few books! "

" not very impressed. i found myself extremely confused with what the hell was going on. it jumps a lot and situations just arise out of freaking nowhere and you're supposed to know what the fuck is happening. "

" Based on this book and on the Steampunk flavored Iron Wyrm Affair, this author has a knack for bloody action and heroines with serious amounts of drive. I'll be looking for more from her. "

" I really like Lilith Saintcrow's writing style. I love the police work along with the paranormal. The romance is there, but takes a back seat to the story. I am also a fan of idea that if you do the wrong thing for the right reason is no necessarily wrong. I can't wait to read the next book. "

" I simply could not get into this book, despite trying on three separate occasions. The story was just told in such an odd manner. It actually *almost* reminded me of The Book Thief, which was another book that I couldn't finish because of the narration style. "
