A man wakes up after an uncomfortable night... Liquor, a bar, an unknown dwelling, all drip through his memory.

He settles down with another drink. A man from the night walks in front of him.

As the tension burns the air between them, images of the night come forward. Someone else was involved; that person's presence hangs in the air.

What happened?

What did he do? And does he now have to pay for his sins?

This is a short tale on the motivations of a writer, what he does to achieve that, and his hopes for even a moment of bliss.

This version also includes part of the When Gods Fail novel.

" Good book, but hints at child endangerment, she should have handled it better "

" This book nabbed me with the impossible relationship Howard set up. I absolutely had to keep reading to see how those two were ever going to come together. But they did. It was great. It's a keeper. "

" This is my fourth Linda Howard book and I have yet to be disappointed. I love how she writes her heroines. I will admit I had a few minor problems with the book, but I just kept my fiction hat on while reading. I can honestly say this is the first time that I've read a book and hoped in the beginning of the book that the heroine would get over her feelings for the hero. Out of anger, he called her trash (the reference was meant more for her family overall than her) when she was younger. However, I got over that when I realized what a strong woman the heroine grew into and how she gave as good as she got. I was sucked into her journey to prove him, his family and all of people in the small town of Prescott wrong. "
