A warm summer Saturday. An amusement park. David Harwood is glad to be spending some quality time with his wife, Jan, and their four-year-old son. But what begins as a pleasant family outing turns into a nightmare after an inexplicable disappearance. A frantic search only leads to an even more shocking and harrowing turn of events. Until this terrifying moment, David Harwood is just a small-town reporter in need of a break. His paper, the Promise Falls Standard, is struggling to survive. Then he gets a lead that just might be the answer to his prayers: a potential scandal involving a controversial development project for the outskirts of this picturesque upstate New York town. It’s a hot-button issue that will surely sell papers and help reverse the Standard’s fortunes, but strangely, David’s editors keep shooting it down. Why? That’s a question no longer at the top of David’s list. Now the only thing he cares about is restoring his family. Desperate for any clue, David dives into his own investigation — and into a web of lies and deceit. For with every new piece of evidence he uncovers, David finds more questions — and moves ever closer to a shattering truth. Download and start listening now!

" I like Mr. Barclay's style of writing. His characters are believable and interesting. I have written the same review to Never Look Away and Fear the Worst. Again, both of these thrillers are a good read! "

" Wow, this book was just a titch dark. The narrator is a likable enough guy, and you will just cringe as his life seems to spiral out of his control--his wife turns away for a second, and their child is taken from her in the middle of an amusement park. The husband finds him, but returns to the front of the park to discover his wife has disappeared...all the evidence starts to point to her murder by his hand. And I've given a lot more info than I normally do. Anywho, it's vintage Barclay. "

" David Harwood's wife goes missing. Nothing adds up. How well do you know your spouse? Who can you trust? This one has so many twists and turns that I got whiplash. The best thriller I've read in a long time. "

" Just OK. His last few haven't been as good as his first ones, and this one is no exception. It was rather formulaic, seemed rushed, and lacked his usual entertaining twists. Nonetheless, still a light, fast-paced, suspend-belief story. "

" I was anxious to read this "thriller" as a recommendation by Stephen King. This is typically a genre that I don't care for. While it certainly was engaging, I wasn't as enthusiastic as aforementioned author. "
