June Whitfield stars as the sharp-witted spinster sleuth in a BBC Radio 4 full-cast dramatisation now available on audio.
Miss Marple is totally shocked to receive a letter from the recently deceased Mr Rafiel, an acquaintance she had met briefly on her travels.
The letter leaves instructions for Miss Marple, whom Mr Rafiel had recognised as a natural detective, to investigate a crime after his death. There are absolutely no details about the crime, however, nothing about who is involved, or where or when it had been committed. Miss Marple, of course is thoroughly intrigued...

"I'm so glad I'm almost done with these Miss Marple books. I loved them so much but they are so terrible. I mean, I love Miss Marple herself, but I really believe the recent stuff about Agatha Christie possibly suffering from dementia ... this one is full of plot holes and weird lapses." — Elizabeth (5 out of 5 stars)

" I really liked that, she has combined a new book with Mr. Rafiel, he was one my favourite character. Even if he was dead in this book, he was somehow in the book with his moves. "
" An odd mystery for Miss Marple. Christie stretches her writing powers here. "
" A treat for any Miss Marple's fans =) "
" I liked this one rather better than Death on the Nile. "
" Agatha Christie novels are my favorite junk food for my brain. :) "
" Miss Marple has nevers of steel as she goes through the motions of cataching a killer. Great pace and the characters were as alwys, well defined. "
" This is one of the better later Christie books. The plot kept me interested and this is one of the few mysteries I've read this year that I didn't know the killer early on. I liked that not only was the killer unknown but the actual mystery had to be figured out. "
" Amazing book...the mystery solves in small packets and each one is very delightful. "
" Not my favorite Miss Marple. She was perhaps a little too dithering in this one. "
" A quick, fun, cozy mystery "
" A good mystery, but rather dark. "
" FINALLY, an Miss Marple novel where I really feel like she's the detective. This was a good one, especially considering it was one of the latter works by AC, which have not proven to be favorites of mine. "
" I think this is one of the best Agatha Christie's I have read. This is a Miss Marple book in which there is much more of Miss Marple than in her other books. A compelling story that kept me guessing until the end! "
" Never finished this one. I think I've lost my taste for Agatha Christie or something... "
" Dit boek blijft tot het einde toe spannend. A. Christie weet je weer heerlijk op het verkeerde been te zetten. "
" Half-ed the book but the mystery wasn't even there yet. It's a placid mystery story. I'd like Miss Marple to be my grandmother. XD "
" Loved it even more than A Caribbean Mystery. "
" The return of Jason Rafiel was satisfying, but the views expressed by Miss Marple and others on female crime victims were so ugly that I found parts of this novel hard to read. "
" Possibly the most boring book I've ever read. It's just not my style I guess. "
" You can't go wrong with good old Miss Marple ... "
" I can never seem to guess correctly >_< "
" always loved Agatha Christie books for so many years. I found this one in my apt building garage and enjoyed it like the others "
" The story haunted me for couple nights. "
" Miss Marple's methods of deduction are revealed. While she has no clear directive from the deceased Mr. Rafiel as to the mystery or the crime, she uses her intuition to discover the miscarriage of justice, and bring closure to the mystery. "
" I agree, Sarah, this one is a ton of fun. I've been on a Christie kick lately and this is at the top of the pile. "
" This is one of my favorites. Miss Marple is older than in most of the books, but still sharp! "
