When a different kind of justice is needed - swift, effective, and personal - a new type of avenger must take action. In Vengeance, best-selling author Lee Child, a superb craftsman of suspense (Entertainment Weekly), presents 21 riveting stories from some of today's top crime writers.

In our dangerous world, offenders cannot always be brought down by the justice system. They must be stopped by someone outside the law. Some call them vigilantes; others claim they are just another brand of criminal. In Dennis Lehane's The Consumers, a suburban woman hires a hit man to target her husband, who has committed a terrible crime. In Karin Slaughter's The Unremarkable Heart, a dying woman learns the truth about a dark family secret. In Michael Connelly's A Fine Mist of Blood, LAPD Detective Harry Bosch discovers a witness who will lead him to the doorstep of a hardened killer. And in Lee Child's The Hollywood I Remember, an assassin gets his long overdue comeuppance.

Edited and with an introduction by Lee Child, these stories reveal the shocking consequences when men and women take the law into their own hands.

" Decent collection of 21 stories all variations on the theme of "vengeance". As in any collection, the reader's enjoyment will depend upon their taste. Enjoy at your own risk. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Jim A | 2/9/2014

" A very good collection of short stories. As the title indicates, the theme of this anthology is 'Vengeance'. Most of the stories have an interesting twist ending in addition to the vengeance theme. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Vorbis | 1/19/2014

" Some of these stories were quite good. I'm not into mystery, and the whole seedy side of it made my skin crawl in a way which will put me off picking up any of the authors (even the ones that caught my eye) but it was a good read. "

" A solid anthology with two excellent stories that I think outshone all the others put together; The Unremarkable Heart by Karin Slaughter and Silent Justice by C.E. Lawrence. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Irma Tijerina | 11/7/2013

" Some good some just OK. The main reason I picked up this book was cause Michael Connelly was one of the contributing authors. So of course I enjoyed what he wrote, along with Karin Slaughter's. "

" A collection of short stories from various crime novelists. Like all anthologies, some stories were better than others. I was glad to see some favourites of mine such as Karin Slaughter and Dennis Lehane and I will be seeking out the work of some of the others. "
