"Fairly typical of golden age mysteries. In this case, our detective, Albert Campion is one of your more jaunty, frivolous types typical of the era, although thoroughly entertaining. But only if you like a mix of witty and jovial companions innocently engaging in inane chatter, while in the background, sinister figures lurk about contemplating evil deeds."

" If you enjoy vintage mysteries, then you already know you will be faced with stereotypes and cultural/societal attitudes. Mystery Mile is full of these, which when you time travel through literature, you must expect. So, with that out of the way...Mystery Mile is not disappointing. Allingham creates fun characters (those sinister, as well as, angelic), giving them clever, tight, and logical dialog. Her death scenes are creepy and oh, so good! Campion, our sleuth, is an enigma whose revelations of self keep the reader interested. This was my first Allingham. I will read more. "

" I have enjoyed many mysteries set between the wars in England, and this now joins the list. I like Champion, though I would have to read more about him to know if I would like to spend much time with him. I can't yet tell if he's a shady character, or just wants to appears to be one. "

" The "hero" Albert Campion is one of those odd duck detectives who the English mystery writers do so well. I like the settings and the interplay of characters. Fun! "

" Dated, and not one of the best Albert Campions but still a classic, and a great ntroduction to Albert and Lugg "

" I re-read this - a favourite from my teen years. Perhaps not quite deserving of the full five stars but so very nearly there it seemed unfair to give it only 4. An entertaining 'hero' in Albert Campion, good supporting cast and nice plot make it a very enjoyable quick read. "

" Campion is a bit much at first, but once the mystery gets going, he is a lot more likable. Also, the mystery is good, and the whole thing moves along at a brisk pace. "

" I liked "Mystery Mile" better than "The Crime at Black Dudley" and am hopeful the books will continue to improve as the series progresses. "

" Fun read, more of an adventure story this time than a mystery. Nothing deep but sometimes it's good just to read about a nice relaxing murder! "

" I enjoyed this book enough to be unhappy that it is the only audiobook available in the series at the library. I like the classic style, but it wasn't that special and, as is typical, the dialog (and audiobook pronunciation) of the American characters is not authentic. "

" Albert Campion mysteries have long been a favorite. Also love the series starring Peter Davidson who is the perfect Campion, in my opinion. Audio-book read by Francis Matthews. "

" I love the early Campion novels. They lack the depth of character that you get in the later ones, but they're awfully clever and atmospheric. "

" This is a fast paced read. I loved it, as I have all Allingham books. The endangered characters are isolated on an isthmus on the English coast. My book has fallen apart, so will have to wait for the third book in this collection. Ha! "

" Read this just a little while ago, forgot, so ordered it again from the library. Her books are such fun to read, but the library only has a couple in print, the rest are on CD. Guess I'll have to see if number one daughter still has the series on a back bookshelf and borrow them again. "
