" Okay, I marked it read, but I didn't. I DNF'd it. My gosh. I just don't even know what to say. The whole scenario and the main character were totally unbelievable. The main character was like a hyped up cliche of a northern backwoods redneck woman...so very fake...I actually read about 15% of the book because I kept thinking it would get better, but I finally realized it wouldn't. A total insult to actual living eccentric northern backwoods redneck women, of whom I know a few. Phew! "

" Stubborn grandma solves murder in Michigan's UP. "
-

" This cozy mystery is a little too silly. Gertie Johnson is a meddlesome granny who gets mixed up in murder. It was a quick read. "
-

" I generally don't care for humorous mysteries, but Gertie, an eccentric 66 year old, along with her friends, Kitty and Cora Mae made this read worthwhile. Their wit, along with some common sense, kept me turning the pages to see if they were able to find out "who dun it". The writing was a little disjointed, but still enjoyable. "

" This was a book about the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, (I live in the UP) I enjoyed the book and it brought back some memories of "Deer Camp" This was a very entertaining story. I plan on reading more of her books. At times I felt like she was talking about our back yard and our neighbors! Good stuff! "

-

" This was a fun read. Feisty Gertie decides that a neighbor was murdered and sets out to investigate despite the opposition of her son, the local sheriff. Some of the characters were a bit over the top but I liked them and wanted to know more. "

" After I got past the early chapters it got better. I recommend sticking with it until the halfway point before deciding whether to give up on it. I'm sure that the subsequent books in the series are better. "

-

Paul Long | 1/11/2013
" Eh. It was free. I would have paid a bit more, but it was a basic, low-brow detective story about an old woman striking out on her own as an investigator, and lucking into a murder mystery. "
-

Fullfaun | 12/16/2012
" I am not even halfway through this book and I have laughed out loud, snickered, and giggled OUT LOUD... while reading this book. "
-

Patty | 11/25/2012
" I'm not sure it says much for the book if my favorite part of the plot line was that the son was trying to have mom declared incompetent by the Probate Court. But....I do have interest in Probate Court. "
-

Margo | 9/28/2012
" A decently entertaining read. Not sure if I'll follow up and read additional titles, but it was fun. Gertie Johnson is one colorful senior-citizen-turned-private-eye protagonist, that's for sure! And the Upper Peninsula setting is interesting. "
