It is November 1, 1940. In the famous sound stage of the Wizard of Oz on the MGM lot, a little man is lying face-up on the yellow brick road. Someone has murdered a Munchkin. Toby Peters is summoned to the scene of the crime by a very young and frightened starlet named Judy Garland. He begins to put together the scanty clues. Within an hour, he is hired by Lewis B. Meyer himself to keep the name of Judy Garland(and MGM) clean of the scandal, and to hold off the police and the newspapers. But before long, Peters realizes that he is on to nothing less than a plot threatening the life of Judy Garland. Enlisting the aid of Judy, Clark Gable, and Raymond Chandler, Peters uncovers clue after clue. But the odds are heavily stacked against him.

"Very light read but if you are looking for something fun and fast this is it. Double bonus that the Wizard of Oz plays a big part of the back story." — C.S. (4 out of 5 stars)

" I like the idea behind the book, but, someone needs a proof reader! How many times can you spell ZIEGFELD as ZIGFIELD? ? ? Flo is turning over in his grave. "
" Toby Peters w/ Judy Garland "
" I got halfway and stopped reading this for a while. The upshot: I like Toby Peters, but not enough to want to read the next book in the series. And I must have missed something when he has his epiphany over who the killer is, since it's a clue that totally shot by me. Sigh. "
" This was not the best of books. I really found it a bit boring but I listened to it anyway. It seemed quite out there. "
" Kaminsky's Toby Peters books are always fast and fun. This one features little people, Judy Garland, and Clark Gable, with some clever twists and turns along the road to solving the murder. "
" well..I didn't finish it. Just a little too odd for me!! "
" Very Good; Continuing character: Toby Peters; detective is called in by Judy Garland to look into the murder of one of the Munchkins. "
" nice little mystery by Kamisky, set on the MGM sound stage during filming of Wizard of Oz "
" Fun and murder behind the scenes at the wizard of oz. "
" It's a fun read...very Sam Spade in the 30's. "
" a recommended author. great read thus far "
" German version Hinter Hollywoods Kulissen "
" Was a intersting 1940's style pot-boiler mystery set on the Wizard of Oz sound stage. nicely told drama of a muchkin killing! Judy Garland and Clark Gable figure prominently. Liked it of course with the film references etc. Quick read. "
" As with the others I have read in this series, this book was witty, fun and full of movie trivia. I really enjoyed it. "
" I think I liked this one better than the first. Course it doesnt hurt that Clark Gable is in this one. Looking forward to the next. "
Stuart Kaminsky (1934–2009) was one of the most prolific crime fiction authors of the last four decades. Born in Chicago, he spent his youth immersed in pulp fiction and classic cinema—two forms of popular entertainment which he would make his life’s work. After college and a stint in the army, Kaminsky wrote film criticism and biographies of the great actors and directors of Hollywood’s Golden Age. In 1977, when a planned biography of Charlton Heston fell through, Kaminsky wrote Bullet for a Star, his first Toby Peters novel, beginning a fiction career that would last the rest of his life. Kaminsky penned twenty-four novels starring the detective, whom he described as “the anti–Philip Marlowe.” In 1981’s Death of a Dissident, Kaminsky debuted Moscow police detective Porfiry Rostnikov, whose stories were praised for their accurate depiction of Soviet life. His other two series starred Abe Lieberman, a hardened Chicago cop, and Lew Fonseca, a process server. In all, Kaminsky wrote more than sixty novels. He died in St. Louis in 2009.
