Dorina Basarab is a dhampir - half-human, half-vampire. Subject to uncontrollable rages, most dhampirs live very short, very violent lives. So far Dory has managed to maintain her sanity by unleashing her anger on those demons and vampires who deserve killing.

Now Dory's vampire father has come back into her life. Her uncle Dracula (yes, the Dracula), infamous even among vampires for his cruelty and murderous ways, has escaped his prison. And her father wants Dory to work with gorgeous master vampire Louis-Cesare to put him back there.

Vampires and dhampirs are mortal enemies, and Dory prefers to work alone. But Dracula is the only thing on earth that truly scares her, so when Dory has to go up against him, she'll take all the help she can get....

" I read the Cassie Palmer series before I started this one. I kind of wish I would have read them in Karen Chances suggested reading order. Oh, well. This book sucked me in and moved quickly. There were none of the 'way too long' scenes I've come to dread in the CP books. Dory is just a lot of fun. Give her a chance (no pun intented), you'll love her! "

" As with all Karen Chance's books this was a good one. It's the first in her Dorina Basarab, Dhampir series. It takes place in the same universe as her Cassie Palmer series. There are some character cross overs such as her father Mirta and Uncle Drack who's now dead. She's a Dhampir because her father is a vampire and her mother was human. An enjoyable series and they did good on the selection of narrator. I'm sure I'll get the next one. "

" Book one in a break off series from Karen Chance, this book takes place in the same world as Cassandra Palmer. There are cameos as well as bigger rolls from players in that series. This series however is about Dhampir Dorina, her dear old dad has asked her to help find her Uncle, Dracula. Now it might seem cheesy to use such a character but I think it really worked. Dorina is a much different character from Cassandra, where Cass is more naive, Dorina has all the knowledge and vast experience. What she doesn't know she has the skill set to find those answers. The story was well told and captivating. I think I will be continuing with this series. "

" I liked the fast pace of this book, the intense acton made devouring it all the more easier. Thankfully the book was only written in the first person, or trying to catchup would have been a problem. The story flowed quickly and clean. I liked that the heroine showed as much heart as doubt. It made her more relatable, more believable. This has really got me ready for the next book in this series. "

" I really, really enjoyed this new character, Dory. I found myself enjoying this book more than I did the Cassandra Palmer books, maybe it had a lot to do with the fact that this book was about cleaning up the mistakes of the second book of the Cassie books. "

" Like all of Karen Chance's books, it was fairly nonstop action and amazement at her characters ability to survive. It's not that I don't like Cassie Palmer (because I do) but Dori is definately my favorite of Karen Chance's characters. I can't wait to read the next. "

" I love Karen Chances Cassandra series and was shocked at how hard this one was for me to get into. I feel like I had to force myself to get to the halfway point. Once there, I really enjoyed it, but it only gets 3 stars because I almost didn't make it that far. "

" I have to say I really enjoyed this book!! It was much better than the books in her first series, Cassie Palmer. Even though there are characters in this series that are in the Cassie series, I just like Dory much better than Cassie. I just found this book much more action packed and a lot funnier. "
