From New York Times best-selling author MaryJanice Davidson comes an outrageously funny novel about a highly unconventional FBI agent, a rather odd serial killer, a best friend on the edge, a gorgeous baker...and oh, yeah, love.

Sweet and innocent with a twist of girl-next-door, Cadence Jones is not your typical girl and certainly not your typical FBI agent. Just ask her sisters, Shiro and Adrienne. (Wait... best if you don't ask Adrienne anything.) But it's her special talent which makes Cadence so valuable to the FBI, and it never comes in handier than when she and her partner, George, get tagged to bring down the Threefer Killer. A serial killer who inexplicably likes to kill in threes, leave behind inexplicable newspaper clippings, and not one shred of decent forensic evidence, soon starts leaving messages that seem to be just for Cadence and her sisters. Could it be that this killer knows all about Cadence's special talent?

In the meantime, love blooms in the most unexpected place when Cadence meets her best friend's gorgeous brother who is in town visiting - and she discovers that he knows her secret too! When attraction burns hot between them, her best friend isn't thrilled with the romantic development and this time Cadence just might agree!

Suddenly, Cadence finds her unbalanced life turned even more upside-down as she tries to date a baker who wants to get in her heart and in her bed, dodge a pesky psychiatrist, keep a leash on her sociopath partner, while trying to catch a serial killer who's now fixated on her.

Some days it's not even worth getting up in the morning.

" Super, super short prequel to "Me, Myself, and Why." Really, too short to like or dislike, took me about a half hour to read. Starting the real thing later today, then I'll be able to decide. "

" strange strange strange!! This was a preqel and i home the actual book of Me, myself and why? explains a bit better. However this was a very quick read. "

" Crazy fun...I loved the premise of the "Better than Best" plumber telling his story via a speed dating evening. I'm now seriously looking forward to the first official Cadence Jones novel. "

" Confusing as hell but very funny. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Angela | 2/7/2011

" A short prequel. I did not care for the format: told from a man's point of view as different people keep coming up to him and staying to listen because his story is so compelling. It was not compelling to me. "

  • 1 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 5 Rhiannon | 1/4/2011

" I really need to stop trying to read these books. They get shorter, more confusing, and disappointing.

To sum it up, this is a short story in which nothing really happens at all. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Amy | 12/11/2010

" A bizarre but funny short story that is a prelude to ME MYSELF AND WHY. A really fun and quick (but very short) story that will have you on the edge of your seat and laughing your backside off. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Jenn | 10/1/2010

" By the time I finished this short teaser for Me, Myself, and Why, I felt like one of the characters in the dating group. I was on the edge of my seat screaming "And then what happened?!". MJ is the queen, and this prequel shows how she earned that title. "

" A short story I got free for the kindle. I didn't entirely follow what was going on, but then, I'm not sure we're supposed to. Anyway, it was a short, fun read and did make me curious about the book it's a prequel to. Cute ending. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Ivy | 9/8/2010

" Not as good as Me, Myself and Why likely because we're not in Shiro and company's head, but good. "
