Samuel Langhorne Clemens was born in 1835 and is far better known by his pen name: Mark Twain. An American author and humorist of the first order, he is perhaps most famous for The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and its sequel, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.

Twain grew up in Hannibal, Missouri, which would later provide the backdrop for these great novels. During his lifetime, he was apprenticed to a printer, worked as a typesetter, and eventually became a master riverboat pilot on the Mississippi River. Later, he headed west with his brother, Orion, to make his fortune, where he failed at gold mining, and instead turned to journalism and found his place in the world as a writer of humorous stories.

The short stories told here showcase Twain's true-calling. His wit and humour sparkle from every word; his mastery of the craft is evident with every phase and punctured target. Enjoyable and entertaining from start to finish, these stories are read for you by Stuart Milligan.

" The story California tale was very interesting and delightful because of its use of foreshadowing and how it draws you in just to twist the story and turn it on its head. In multiple cases in this story I felt like i knew what was going to happen and in the end everything I had thought was completely altered and the emotion of the story was almost devine. I personally really enjoyed the California tale and in the end i would recomend it to most if not all of my friends. "

" I LOVED this book! I had to read it for school, and Mark Twain's short stories are among the best thing he's done. If anybody ever wants a sort of beginner's taste of Twain without digging into one of his longer works, this is perfect. Plenty of moments where I left out loud---"The Story of the Good Little Boy," "The Story of the Bad Little Boy" and the Adam and Eve diaries are my favorites. "

" There is something to be said for avoiding reading stale comedy. I can understand how this book would have been a huge hit in its day, but doesn't quite hold up for the 2000s. "
