Publisher Description

"I got this book as a birthday present when I was in high school and we were all reading about Latin American writers. I did not only learned about Isaacs`writing style but also about Colombia."

" Really disliked reading this novel. A mix of Romanticism and Realism, this was the best-selling Latin American novel before a little book called One Hundred Years of Solitude came along. Maria is the "ideal" woman, in 19th century terms, which means she is repellent to the present-day reader (if you're a feminist at least). The countryside is really the star of this book, and the descriptions of Colombia are wonderful. I found it to be largely forgettable. "

" The narrative is very slow...it describes EVERYTHING....I just don't like the kind of novels that tend to describe every single detail of a scene. Thats why it was so boring to me. "
